Olay Natural White Rich Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 Review

Olay Natural White Rich Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30

I am very particular about having SPF content in my day creams/lotions. Even when I am indoors I make sure my moisturizer has SPF 15 or use a calamine lotion which has zinc oxide which is known to offer UV protection to some extent. For outdoors I prefer SPF 30 or higher. I was on the verge of finishing my Lotus Matte sunscreen and wanted to try out something else. What made me choose this? Olay is a trusted brand in skincare. It has SPF 30, plus this is a ‘RICH’ lotion. Apt for my dry skin! (Or so I thought 🙁 ) Also let me clarify, I chose ‘Natural White’ only expecting some kind of brightening or anti-tan effect. I am totally against the whole concept of ‘Whitening’/’Fairness’

About Olay Natural White Rich Sunscreen Lotion – SPF 30

Its non-greasy formula with SPF 30 and Vitamin B3 helps,
>Protect your skin from sun’s harmful UVA/B rays
>Prevent your skin from becoming dark again**
>Prevents formation of dark spots caused by sun** to give you a fairness that glows
**when used regularly as per the usage instructions on the pack

My experience with Olay Natural White Rich Sunscreen Lotion – SPF 30

The lotion comes in a white plastic bottle with a pump as dispenser and a transparent plastic cap over the pump dispenser (sorry girls I seem to have misplaced the cap)The bottle is not transparent, but if you hold it to light, you will be able to see how much lotion is present inside. Also, the plastic cap comes off a tad easily. I had once kept this bottle in my handbag, the cap came off, the pump somehow got pressed and made by handbag messy!

Coming to the lotion, it is a white creamy lotion with a pleasant mild fragrance. The pump dispenses a pea size amount in one go which is sufficient to cover face and neck. However, on application I found that it does not get absorbed by the skin completely. It made my face look slightly greasy even though I have dry skin. I had to follow up with compact to set it. In spite of this, I tried to use it continuously every day for more than a couple of weeks. But I could see no brightening (read whitening) effect or glow. Only good thing was I did not develop any tanning or sun spots when I had used it for outdoors(hey, but that’s what sunscreens are supposed to do aren’t they!). It went straight to the back of my cabinet. I took it out again for use in monsoons, thinking that it may not look greasy now that the climate is cooler. But, I was disappointed to see that it looked greasy even in monsoons (humid climate again maybe?)

An afterthought – I had purchased this sometime in May – a time when the summer heat and humidity is at its peak in Mumbai. I think it was a mistake on my part to have chosen a ‘RICH’ lotion during humid climate. Needless to say, it did not work well in monsoon either. Off it went again to the back of my cabinet. I will give it a try again in the dry winters coming up.

Summing up the pros and cons:

Pros of Olay Natural White Rich Sunscreen Lotion – SPF 30

– Pleasant, mild fragrance
– Pump dispenser – easy and hygienic to use
– Decent UV protection

Cons of Olay Natural White Rich Sunscreen Lotion – SPF 30

– Even though bottle size looks convenient to be carried around, there is a risk of the cap coming off and the product getting spilled
– No brightening/whitening effect as claimed by them
– Gives a greasy/oily look in humid climate

Overall rating:

2.8/5
