Colorbar Stick Concealer Review

by Rati on January 3, 2010 · 53 comments

Happy New Year to Everyone once again. :) Delhi is just freezing and freezing more by every day. There has been no sun since two days. But I think winters are the best days when you can dress up and have fun with makeup the most. You get least worried about your foundation meltings or liner smudgings. Winters gives us more reason to dress up and look beautiful. :)

So here comes my first review of the year: Colorbar Stick Concealer

Colorbar ConcealerWhy should you buy Colorbar Stick Concealer?

  • It’s creamy
  • It’s going to last forever but I plan to discard it after an year.
  • It’s non messy.
  • It goes on my skin like a dream.
  • The packaging  is very convenient. It’s just like throwing another lipstick in your bag and you can do touch ups anywhere and anytime of the day. All you need is your ring finger.
  • The texture is soft so the concealer is easily bendable.
  • It does not settle in my crease.
  • The staying power is good.
  • It’s buildable.

Why should you NOT buy Colorbar Stick Concealer?

  • Its’ expensive- Rs 425
  • A lot of it is going to go waste (atleast for me)
  • It might look cakey, if not applied properly.

How To Use Colorbar Concealer Stick?

Colorbar Concealer swatch

It’s super easy. If you are using it under your eyes, just swipe the stick directly under the hollow of your eyes and blend it with your ring finger/ brush.  Dab a damp sponge to remove the excess and set the concealer with powder (loose/pressed). I use my face powder/compact and the concealer stays put for hours at a  stretch.

If you are using to hide your blemishes, just dot the concealer on the blemishes and blend away.

I just make sure to wipe off the concealer top with a tissue before closing the lid.

It is best to use this concealer AFTER your have done your foundation and BEFORE you do your powder. This way your foundation would cover most of your light blemishes leaving little room for concealer and hence less chances of cakiness.

colorbar concealer and truffle I liner

I am wearing the COlorbar’s concealer under my eyes and you can see it just blends well with my complexion. Mind you! I do have dark circles.:) I am wearing the Truffle eye pencil from Colorbar on top my lids.  Truffle is gorgeous brown colour that I wear almost every second time I step out of home. :)

Colorbar I Pencil

I noticed that the colorbar’s site no longer shows the concealer in their list of products. I have no clue about the reason but there must be manufacturing shortage so they have not displayed the product online. However you would be able to find it in stores. They are already running short of their brushes so you must hurry for the concealer! :P

When I bought the concealer, it was available in 3 shades : Coral(for lighter complexions), Caramel (for medium complexions), Coffee (for darker complexions). I have the one in Caramel and it goes well with my skin.

I also noticed that Colorbar has included more shaded in their foundations and compact powders, which is definitely a yay! :) Atleast some Indian company is trying hard to raise its standards and give tough competition to high end brands.

Thee is inclusion of Colorbar Extra Durable lipcolour in 10 shades as well. Colorbar is going places and it makes me super happy. :)  The site says that it is kiss proof and an ideal stuff for a date. :P

Would I repurchase it? I hope they have not stopped manufacturing it. I would definitely repurchase it.

Have you used Colorbar’s concealer yet?

UPDATE: The colorbar concealer is not showing on Colorbar’s website but a quick google search took me to that page. I guess this was an old page that google is still reflecting.

umm .. strange I had mine since last 4 months and it also came in 3 colors .. just the lightest color was ‘coral’ , neva mind , yup I have the same shade and yeah its very creamy but not overly so .. I bought it just to make sure I have a concealer in my kit buh seldom use it .. dont have noticeable dark circles ,*touch wood*
buh I have seen it fails to cover serious dark circles and tend to look greyish (on my mum)
she has purplish shadow under eyes .. makes me wonder if she’s in need of some kind of corrector , lets c if i’ll be able to locate Bobbi Brown in INDIA :D
any suggestions ??

Palak,

Thanks for the shades tip. Colorbar has removed the concealer listing from their site and I got confusedwith the shade names. Have corrected it now. :)

I don’t have heavy dark circles, they are dark brownish kinds. It conceals those brownish dark circles and even brighten up my eye area.

For purplish undereye circles, you would would have to look for a concelaer that has a peachy pink (salmon) undertone.

I can’t recall any reco as of now. :( Will definitely let you know as an when I remember. :)

Okay,

Here are the options: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind: http://www.maybellinenewyork.ca/caeng/products/face/l29l51l65l636l648.htm

Loreal True Match Concealer: http://www.lorealparisusa.com/

or

The Mac Studiosculpt concealer: http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT157&PRODUCT_ID=4388

All of them are the heavy coverage concealers and they might work.

All these beauty magazines are showing Bobbi Brown is available in India but no mention about where…

Their main site also does not mention India as one of their retail destinations.

Hi Sarah,

Welcome aboard. :) May be the conealer that you were using not your skin type. I love using concelaer. On my non foundation- good skin days, I just dab a concelaer and my face powder and I am ready to go.

May be a different brand concelaer might work for you. :)

Hello there! Great review, I’d love to try this out on my blemishes but this brand is across the world! If I ever travel to India I know what to try out ;) I’ll give the other concealers you listed a go, thankyou!

Hey this sounds good ya, only i really don’t need a concealer so i won’t be getting this.. Am more of a sheer coverage girl :D… But i am really loving colorbar these days.. Most of their products are good & am yet to come across a rotten apple yet :D

Rati January 5, 2010 at 1:13 pm

This is more of a buidable concelaer than a heavy coverage concealer. That’s the reason I like it. :)

I know I am becoming a fan of colorbar these days. :P

Sounds good ya Rati! Thr u have sold me on to it. Will go & get it next week :)

I have been using it for months now and if you ask me to give you one complaint, I wouldn’t have a single one. On the get-ready-quick days I just apply it on my blemishes and under eyes and dust some powder on top. It’s important to dust this product with powder because it’s creamy. I recently discovered that it benlds great with a small flat brush even better than if applied with finger tips.

As Palak said that it does not work well with severe dark circles but since I don’t have such problem, it works great for me. :)

You seem to be going on a shopping spree on Saturday. Happy Shopping! :)

I forgot to update you on this last week. I went to the store to get this concealor & was told by the SA that it has been discontinued since quite some time :(

Really sad as this would have been my first concealer purchase.. Any other good reccos?

Reply

Rati February 12, 2010 at 3:22 pm

oh!! I had this feeling coz it’s not listed on their site anymore. I have not used any other concealer but have read some great reviews about maybelline instant rewind. I am myself going to buy it once I am done with my colorbar one. Will let you know if I come across some other good one.

If you are not looking at concealing but something that would just brighten up your eye area, you can also take a look at this : http://colorbarcosmetics.com/Products/Radiant-Glow-Face-Illuminator-Pen__MIL.aspx

I have swatched it quite a few times but never purchased it. From the swatch I have always liked it but I always have something or other to buy or compensate for it so it shifts down in my shopping list.

Don’t know why they discontinued the concealer. I love it so much. :(

Hi Rati

The makeup on our eyes looks fabulous – specially the shiny thin deep black lining you have done on the waterline – can you do a video of this – i want to learn to do this – without my eyes looking as if im ready for a horror shoot :p

Rati February 24, 2010 at 11:56 pm

Oh! I did a similar thing in my evening makeup look video. However someone else was requesting me to do this everyday kind of look. Okay I’ll consider. :P

Hi Ani, Thank you so much. The colorbar’s concealer is not available here as well. The company is facing some manufacturing issues and I am not sure when is that going to be sorted. You may give maybelline or revlon concealers a try. I have heard they are good! :)
