Easy Office Eye MakeUp Tutorial

Here is a simple 5 minute office makeup tutorial. You don’t have to use the same products I have used, you may use anything you want. :) This makeup tutorial is especially for people who are mostly working in office setting. Hope you like it. :)

Office makeup Tutorial

Start by priming your eye lids.

Prime

Apply primer on lower lash line as well. Leave inner third of lower lash line.

Take any flesh coloured pencil for highlighting. You may also use a nude lip pencil. I don’t use white pencil because I find it a little hard for my skin tone. This shade is a little lighter than my skin tone. That’s why I use it as a highlighter.

MAC Chromagraphic pencil

Apply the nude eye pencil just below the arch of your eye brow.

Now pick MAC twinks eye shadow with the same brush..

Now pick black eye shadow with a liner brush. You may use gel liner or pencil liner instead of black eye shadow. I feel eye shadow gives a little softer look for office makeup.

Line your upper lash line. Keep the eyeshadow closest to your lashline.

I’ll be doing a few more steps. Pick twinks on the tip of flat shader brush.

I have used MAC chromagraphic pencil but you may use any nude lip pencil as well. Just make sure that it doesn’t go inside your eye. Beyu makes a nude lip pencil. It works just fine.

Hi Rati,

Great tutorial, love this look for formal occasions, also great for a starter who isn’t into eyeshadows yet (like me) and would find it difficult to figure out crease, outer V, etc.

Quick question: can you suggest some drugstore dupes for MAC Twinks?

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 4:25 pm

Sonali I wanted to mention the dupe for twinks but I really don’t know. :((

Mrunmayee October 25, 2010 at 10:36 am

Hey.. Awesome tute..

Simple, classy and clean cut!!

Btw, is Twinks closer to Colorbar, Spicy brown?

Reply

Rati October 25, 2010 at 11:29 am

Similar and you can pretty much use it for this look. :) I just feel twinks is more polished and clean….if that makes any sense. :silly:

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 4:29 pm

I searched online and found that NYX Walnut bronze is a dupe. Well I disagree on that. Twinks is more reddish brown while walnut bronze is a taupe brown.

Okay chromagraphic pencil something that you can put on your waterline. Generally a pencil of this shade is great for people with small eyes. If they put a kajal or a dark liner inside their eyes, their eyes tend to look smaller. So if they apply a white or flesh coloured pencil the eyes would look bigger.

It’s like you do a smokey eyes, apply black eyeshadow won your lower lash line and apply chromagraphic pencil on your waterline. Your eyes wouldn’t look smaller or closed.

I love to use this pencil for highlighting because I think white pencil looks quite star on most Indian skin tones.

Unfortunately all the products that we truely love in MAC are LEs. These ones also are. They came up with 2 shades. It is still available here in Delhi because I don’t think many people buy it. :P

Reply

Janhavi October 24, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Gotcha – I knew about the light pencils to open ur eyes – i just hadnt heard of these ones – Mac does a normal Kohl in white also na – for the same purpose – I hope I can get my hands on these babies in Mumbai – otherwise sucks :-(( :-((

Not liking that its a LE *grumpy*

eeenie meeenie is like mean version of Inky pinky

I love rhyming things – so much fun !

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 6:58 pm

These came with pret – a papier collection. The funniest thing is that thes pencils were not launched when the actual collection was launched . They came in much later and by then most people had accepted the fact that these wouldn’t be available in India. I think that’s why mac stores still have this.

yeah there is white mac kohl. :)

I think white would look nice on you. you are gori gori na. :P :P

Rati October 24, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Speaking of MAC eyeshadows – hows the Carbon turning out ? I am still deciding between that and the INGLOT black …. sigh choices choices …….

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I think may be next week. :)

It’s a nice shadow. Actually Janhavi I was using such a horrid black eyeshadow that this Carbon feels like a blessing in my life. :P Radhika was telling me the other day that I keep suing that VOV e/s in my tutorials and keep asking people not to buy it. Who would believe you. :P :P

I wonder of Inglot has a matte black. They mostly have more shimmery colours.

I think you must have eye shadows from both brands. Both of them do an outstanding job. :)

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 7:33 pm

okay on second thought if Inglot has a matte black, that would be more intense than mac carbon.

Reply

Janhavi October 24, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Ahhhhhh “I think you must have eye shadows from both brands. Both of them do an outstanding job.” I am going to save this quote and blame my credit card bill on it :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P

Ive seen you curse that VOV eye shadow on a few tuts and stuff – LOL, how come it took you so long to buy another one ??? me been drooling over that carbon for 3 months now – you dont know how much its killing me that I have to wait till im back to buy all this stuff..

BTW whats the deal with original VOV in India – I’ve only seen the fake stuff like with Etude ( so much fake Etude stuff around ) :pain: :pain: :pain: :pain: :pain: :pain: :pain: :pain: :pain: :pain:

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 7:51 pm

Actually Janhavi some people might want to kill me for this but I liked blacktied more than Carbon. I have no reason behind it but I just liked it more. Then came in all MUAs suggestions and it was carbon Carbon from everyone. So I was like well okay!

Well I have 2 more blacks – one from my lancome palette and one in estee lauder. Estee lauder one is a gorgeous black with multicoloured shimmer. (btw I am going to worship eL’s e/s one day :P :P ) . the lancome one is not as intense black as I would want it to be. And the Vov black. So I was kind of reluctant to buy more black but VOV finally forced me to BUY a black shadow. :D :D

I think I have the original VOV only because i purchased it from the direct dealer. The eyeshadows are amazingly pigmented but it was getting too much to clean the fall out every time. :(( Also I have heard a few people getting irritations and allergy with VOV eye shadows so I was kinda scared of them as well.

We have more of fake MAC here. :D :D

Janhavi October 24, 2010 at 8:02 pm

But Black Tied is not matte black no ? Im guess its like the “Smolder effect” like MAC has some great black eyeliners – at least 3 plain matte ones then the ones like Buried treasure but everyone always says Smolder Smolder – like that with all the black e/s s its like default Carbon u know what I mean na …….
But I saw the Black Tied shade – loooks very pretty pretty ……

I totally understand you worshipping E/L – Ive been drooling over tht blue dahlia palette since I laid eye on it – I tell you !

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 8:40 pm

Deboo, the pencil is for 900 (approx)

and Beyu one is for Rs 475 . But Beyu is a lip pencil not an eye pencil. But you can use it that ways. http://makeupandbeauty.com/beyu-cosmetics-hits-indian-makeup-stores/

Deb, I think you can easily get away with a white ye pencil. Maybelline makes a white pencil. Just don’t use that inside your eyes. It stings…atleast it stung my eyes. :((

Great tut. Love the overall subtle look. You look pretty. :-))

I hope you received my mail Rati.

Jas, use a good primer. :)

Yes this one is a basic office look. You can experiment with more colours depending on the kind of job you have. :))

Reply

Jas October 24, 2010 at 11:38 pm

Ohh! I love my job for that. I wear greens, blues, purples.. as wild as i want.. :-D Drwaback: Late nights and uneven hours lead to dark circles.

I bought MaxFactor Age renew foundation. N I really like it. Thanks for that! Next buy TBS loose powder and a primer. Which is the most recommended primer on IMBB?

Reply

Rati October 24, 2010 at 11:58 pm

you in some media job? :)

If you are in Mumbai, get a mufe primer. If not mac does a great job with primers.

In drugstores, it’s only maybelline that does primers. And if nothing then use an oil free moisturiser. It works just fine as a primer. :)

Hi Trupti,

Welcome to IMBB. :)

You know when I used to work in proper office setting , all I used to wear was kajal. And honestly, I was least bothered about doing touch ups then. Worst was that I was handling all HNI clients and I had to look all the more tip top and polished. The only think that worked in my favour was good dressing. :D

After years now I know how important it is to have some makeup when you are meeting clients. It looks nice and make you feel confident.

Glad you liked it and do try it out. :)

And you must comment more often. It’s always good to have more people around.

Thanks a ton! :)

Trupti October 25, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Thanks Rati for replying… :-)

I am dieheart for lip sticks and glosses and all lip makeup.. :-P
but i never liked eye makeup.. and my eye makeup was just limited to kajal and in few occations eyeliner.. but till date i have never tried eyeshadows.. i feel it will look more bold on me… but i will definetly give a try now…

one question; for eye makeup and for blushes which brushes are good to use??? ?:-)

Rati October 25, 2010 at 1:24 pm

Shilpa,

There are two reasons I did it:

1. It will prevent you from the process of blending. You apply the eye shadow on your lid and go above the crease. When you go above the crease your eyeshadow blending part is almost done. If you put it afterwards, you have to blend the eyeshadow that you put on your lid and the one above the crease.

2. I like to blend 2-3 colours. I somehow find that looks nicer than just one colour and adds dimension.

Actually even if you look at things around you nothing you would find anything with just one colour. Even grass is not in one colour..You’ll find shades of yellow, light green, grass green etc…So when you layer one eyeshadow on top of other, it looks prettier than just one single colour…

I don’t know if you relate to that but I just like it that ways….:)

hi Rati..i hav a tiny query which i want to get solved today itself… :-P :-P
as i am planning to do my first online makeup purchase(frm ebay.com), i just wanna make it clear tht when v r about to make the payment thru our credit card, the amount appears in Dollars.. so how do v cum to know tht how much i am paying in Indian currency( suppose i know tht i am purchasing for 1000 in Rs. then does the same amount gets deducted frm the credit card.. how do i get to know tht,do they show an equivalent indian amt).. i kno this is a weird ques bt plzzzz reply as i am planning to place an order today itself.. :-P :-P
u hav already purchased online so am asking.. :-))

Rati October 25, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Nids, just call up your bank and ask them what rate would they be charging you. It depends from bank to bank. Mostly it’s one or two rupee more than the actual exchange rate. :)

Reply

Radhika October 25, 2010 at 4:17 pm

The equivalent Indian Rs. amt would show up on the credit card bill won’t it ?:-)

Reply

Nids October 25, 2010 at 4:29 pm

yeah radhika.. tht i kno .. but b4 paying i want to make sure tht i am actually paying wht i think is rght for tht item.. not anything extra..do u get it or am i sounding funny here.. does the indian currency equivalent is shown while v r paying ?? this is wht i want to kno..(uff i am confused n confusing others toooo…)

Hi Rati,

I really loved this look and would definitely try it out. One question though.. I had bought a NYX eye primer a few days back………. haven’t used it one …not sure what was i thinking when i bought it; but i see now that the primer that you have used (and other members in other tutorials) has a pinkish/brownish tone to it but the NYX one that I have is completely white. Have i bought a wrong one??? do we need to buy the primer as per the skin tone???
