FABINDIA SESAME HAIR OIL – REVIEW
Time – 01.30 am Location – My room Scene – Me sitting alone, in pyjamas and tee, oiled hair, super bored. And this is what follows –
“I am bored, I should do something. But what? Write a review maybe. Yeahhhh! Good idea. *looks around for something to review* Found it, the oil which is happily sitting on my head now. Hmmmm, but the bottles looks sticky and old, not a pleasant picture. Maybe I should wash it and then see.”
So the super intelligent me goes and washes the hair oil bottle with Dettol hand wash to make it look squeaky clean and the product label comes off. 😐 I am too lazy to trying sticking it back again, so I start writing the review, leaving to label to air dry. 😀 *Photos can be taken the next morning in better light.*
I think this should explain the photo of the oil bottle. 😛 😛 😛
The ‘clean and nice looking’ product – Fabinida Sesame Hair Oil.
What the product claims – Pure Sesame oil blended with Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil and Ginger Extract.
For all hair types.
Key Ingredients – Sesame Oil, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Jojoba Oil, Ginger Extract.
Directions For Use – Apply to scalp and massage. Leave on for at least one hour before shampooing. No added colour or fragrance.
Now, what is Ascorbyl Palmitate?
Ascorbyl palmitate is an ester formed from ascorbic acid and palmitic acid creating a fat-soluble form of vitamin C. In addition to its use as a source of vitamin C, it is also used as an antioxidant food additive (E number E304).Ascorbyl palmitate taken orally is less effective, due to the substance breaking down again into ascorbic acid (not necessarily Vitamin C) and palmitic acid (a saturated fatty acid) before being digested. Ascorbyl palmitate is also marketed as “vitamin C ester”. (Courtesy – Wikipedia)
Basically it is something that is not harmful and helps keep things from staling. So I think it’s some sort of a preservative. (Don’t laugh, there’s got to be some reason for me not taking up science 😛 )
Price – Rs.275/- for 200ml
My experience – I have been using this for around two months now and I find it a good product. No frills, no high claims, normal hair oil. It definitely has helped in reducing hair fall but nothing that will make me go gaga over it. Regular use with proper hair care will give you healthy hair. One major issue that I have with this oil is THE SMELL. Oh My God!! This smells exactly like bubblegum, sweet fruity smell and it really gets into my head. Imagine walking around with two kilograms of ‘boomer’ or ‘center fresh’ stuck on your head. Exactly the same feeling. Apart from that, it’s not sticky or heavy. Won’t give you a headache (can’t say about the smell 😛 ), is light enough. It boils down to the fact that this is a decently priced, good hair oil, a welcome change from the usual coconut or almond oil and is definitely worth a try. Another thing I would like to mention is that, it has made my hair a little darker. Sesame oil as such is believed to darken hair and that is why is advised that as you grow older you should increase sesame in your diet/care routine. But the change is very very slight.
Coming to pros and cons –
Pros of Fabindia Sesame Hair Oil
1. It makes hair healthy. Helps a tiny bit with hair fall as well.
2. Has Vitamin E, Jojoba oil and Ginger. Ginger is supposed to be very good for hair. Dunno why it isn’t so popular.
3. It’s light and not very sticky.
4. Decently Priced.
5. Softens Hair. But every hair oil is supposed to do that naa… :silly:
6. Darkens Hair. Is almost negligible but at least it happens.
Cons of Fabindia Sesame Hair Oil
1. The sweet bubblegum smell. It can really get onto your nerves.
2. Only the key ingredients list is provided.
Apart from this is can’t think of any cons. I would recommend this, especially if you are bored of your regular oils and would like to try something new.
Would I Repurchase? – Not sure, have loads of hair oils to finish and I would like to try some other brand now.
Rating – 4/5 (a point docked for the funny smell and incomplete ingredients list)
