I generally do a lot of research for buying my makeup and skin care stuff and hence very rarely do I run into a dud. After having good luck with so many Hard Candy makeup products in the past, here comes a dud!! I used the “Metallic Black” version of this same line of eyeliner and I was quite impressed! But this Hard Candy Stay In Line 12 Hr Mechanical Gel Eyeliner in “Dark Chocolate” is just not good. Before I rant too much about this baby, let’s get into the details of this product.

My Experience with Hard Candy Dark Chocolate Stay In Line 12 Hr Mechanical Gel Eyeliner:
Packaging: This eye pencil comes in a convenient mechanical twist-up packaging. The sleek and slim look of this pencil is easy to use and travel friendly. It also comes with an outer packaging that has all the details of the product mentioned on it. The body of the eye pencil is color coded to the shade of the eyeliner. There is no sharpening involved, so no product wastage! All in all, the packaging is simple and practical.
Texture: This liner has a comparatively hard texture that does not glide smoothly along the lash-line or waterline. This is just not creamy enough for a texture of an eyeliner. When applying on the lower lash line (not lower waterline), it does tug a lot and no matter how much effort and patience you put into building the colour, it just does not show up.
Color and Pigmentation: The pigmentation is not a dense super color payoff, but it can be built to a good intensity, but only on the hand. On the eyes, it does not show up as expected out of a creamy eyeliner. Even after rubbing this along the lower waterline several times, this does not show up!! In the EOTD, I have swiped this at least 12-15 times and then when my eye started to hurt, I gave up.
Staying Power: According to Hard Candy, this baby wears for up to 12 hours straight, but this one does even show up on the eyes, let alone standing by its claim! Whatever little colour payoff is achieved, stays on the lash-line for 1-2 hours and fades after that.

- Affordable.
- Easily available in drugstores and online.
Cons of Hard Candy Dark Chocolate Stay In Line 12 Hr Mechanical Gel Eyeliner:
- Not a dark chocolate shade, contrary to what the brand claims.
- Does not glide easily.
- Very less pigmentation.
- Hard texture.
- Not safe for rubbing on the eyes 30 thousand times to get some colour payoff!!
- Terrible staying power.
- Not as creamy as I would like.
- Tugs the eyes like crazy.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase Hard Candy Dark Chocolate Stay In Line 12 Hr Mechanical Gel Eyeliner?
I haven’t come across such a dud in my life so far!! Even the products that I don’t find are up to the mark, can be used for something at least! But this dud straight went into the dust bin because I have no place for terribly performing products in my vanity! Steer clear from this product ladies, don’t get it even if you get it for free!!
