Lakme Sun Expert Fairness Sunscreen SPF 24 PA++ Review

Hello IMBB Sweeties,

I am a real shopaholic; I have lots and lots of products from several brands in my possession. 😀 As far as review is concerned ,in this scorching hot weather, nothing except “sunscreen “ would be suitable. :haanji:

sun expert spf24

Price – Rs 225 for 100 ml Current Price – Rs 175, I got this for Rs 164 after discount.
Before reviewing the product, I would like to explain some basic concepts of sun protection, essential for all:
SUNBLOCK vs. SUNSCREEN

Sunblock is opaque and blocks almost all of the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. It consists largely of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Sunblock does not have to be reapplied every few hours. Sunblock works like a mirrored shield. It contains minute particles of reflective material. They reflect the sun’s rays away from your skin blocking the damaging rays from ever reaching at all. The ingredients included in sunblocks include Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. (This includes Powder Sunscreen and Mineral Makeup.)
Sunscreens are less visible on the skin and are designed to protect against UVA, UVB, or both. They do allow some radiation through and need to be reapplied every few hours because their ingredients break down after exposure to sunlight. If you use sunscreen, it is better to use one that has a high SPF, put on a lot, and reapply every two to three hours. The ingredients that are most often found in sunscreens include PABA, Benzophenones, Cinnamates, Salicylates.

SPF (SUN PROTECTION FACTOR)
The initials SPF stand for Sun Protection Factor. The higher the SPF number on sunscreen, the more protection you have, or the longer you can stay in the sun without burning.
The SPF number tells you how long you can stay in the sun before getting burned. If you normally start to burn after 15 minutes of sun exposure, an SPF 15 product will let you stay in the sun for approximately 15 times longer (or 3 1/2 hours) without burning.
SPF sunscreen numbers indicate sunburn protection from UVB rays only. There is not a rating system for UVA.

SKIN DAMAGE
Skin damage is caused by both UVA and UVB exposure. Sunlight exposes you to two kinds of ultraviolet light, called UVA and UVB. Both can cause skin damage, including wrinkling and skin cancer.
• Exposure to UVB rays has an immediate (within 60 seconds) and harmful effect to the skin
• You don’t feel or notice UVA exposure but it is the main cause of skin cancer and wrinkles, one of the main reasons why sunscreen is important.
To ensure protection from UVA rays your sunscreen should be labeled “Broad Spectrum” and contain at least one of these ingredients: Avobenzone (also known as Parsol 1789 or butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, Titanium dioxide, Zinc oxide ,Anthelios SX ,Helioplex (Is the Neutrogena blend of Avobenzone and Oxybenzone),Outside the United States, Mexoryl SX and Tinosorb are also used.

PA RATING SYSTEM
‘PA’ stands for protection grade of UVA system and is the Japanese measurement of sun protection, which is based on the Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) reaction reading at 2-4 hours of sun exposure. According to info from the wiki, the Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) method is a method of measuring UVA protection, similar to the SPF method of measuring UVB light protection.

These are the three levels of protection that are commonly seen:
PA+, PA++ and PA+++.
PA+ provides some UVA protection with a factor of PPD 2-4
PA++ provides moderate UVA protection with a factor of PPD 4-8
PA+++ provides good UVA protection with a factor of PPD > 8
Which means, you’re better off picking a sunscreen with PA+++ which will provide you with the greatest protection.

WHAT LAKME SAYS
Lakme Sun Expert Fairness Sunscreen with SPF 24 PA++ is designed to provide broad spectrum UV protection. While SPF 24 majorly blocks UVB rays that cause sun burns.PA++ provides effective protection from harmful UV A rays that cause dark spots, premature aging and skin darkening. This daily moisturizing sunscreen formulated with cucumber & lemon grass extracts and Vitamin B3 not only protects but also correct past sun damage, dark spots and pigmentation.

MY EXPERIENCE
Though I am completely in love with my Neutrogena Ultrasheer Dry touch SPF 50 sunblock, I use it only on face (its costly so cannot afford to use it regularly on neck and hands ), thus wanted a sunscreen lotion at cheaper rate. The SA at the store suggested me about the newly launched Lakme Sun expert Fairness Sunscreen with SPF 24 PA++ with cucumber and lemon grass extracts. I applied a bit from the tester, I really loved the fragrance, awesome for summer. :pompom: So I bought it for a happy summer experience 🙂 .I also got lakme strawberry fruit blast facewash free with this lotion, :yahoo: another reason for buying 😉 My skin completely absorbs the sunscreen and I don’t tan much using it! No breakout!

  1. Tapaswini, I am also liking this sunscreen. Infact i am liking it more because it gets absorbed , does not make my skin oily and does not leave whitish cast. i do agree that SPF 24 is less but you know my skin didn’t burn even when i stepped out with this much SPF. otherwise my skin burns with very less sun exposure also. i get those dirty red patches from sun and they take a full week get repaired. :spank:

you mentioned you dont like your sunscreen to get absorbed.. then how do you prefer your sunscreens to be… ??

agree with all your points

    1. I mean Rati, I dont like a sunscreen because it gets absorbed, I have liking towards sunblock as they act as barrier and doesnot get absorbed, I liked it Rati, but my liking to Neutregena overshadows all  but frankly saying for the first time a product from Lakme didnot cause any breakout !! 3. Tapaswini sunblock is so important na,specially in this kolkata heat,15 minutes in the sun and I look like an alien,my skin becomes tanned,my eyes retract in their socket(they seriously do :dazed: :X-P: ) and I sweat like hell.
currently I am using the lotus one,I’ll try this one next.By the way I did a lakme haul yesterday, bought a few glide ones ,botanica quad, shimmer liner ,lipstick shade 134 which looked so fab on rati :worship: :worship: and the ginger surprize blush   ,I am super excited :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

    1. Yaa Manjira, yesterday when I stepped out around 12 pm, I was going to have a sunstroke  ,so much hot its outside and sunblock and sunscreen is inevitable ! Woww nice, you bought so many things I have bought lakme glide on color aqua green, make up remover which is not good, irritates my eyes like anything, but sheer satin lip gloss is awesome !

        1. Yess I have shade number 23, its awesome which all shades you have, am liking the multi mineral compact from Lakme perfect radiance, glides so well and no patches and whitish feel, its cheap also ! 😀

        1. Yeah dont buy the lakme 9 to 5 make up remover, it looks so cute ,pink spray bottle, but content is harsh,it irritates eyes so much that my eyes get sore :(( and it doesnt remove eyeliners properly,am not at all satisfied ! Was thinking for putting it on sale 😀

  4. mela sunscreen    mela sunscreen     me love it… first lakme sunscreen which doesn’t smell wired :jiggy2: bt mine doesn’t have any silver sparkles….me use on face    :preen: :preen:

    1. You wont find anything in normal light, only in sunlight its visible, apply on your arms a bit and step out in sun,you wuold see it but very fine, I have no probs, I mentioned it because I thought many people could have problems from it . :))

      1. okis…..i will try :joker: :joker: :joker: :joker: :joker: :joker: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :high5: :high5:

        1. I have dry skin, I love neutregena because it gives dewy look and my compact and whole make up stays long and i get a flawless look, which is not possible without this sunblock.

          1. when in moodddd….    these days its raining here everyday so the water is collddddd…brrrrr…

  5. I dont know swimming !! :(( My parents always thought I would face a head on collision and get a fracture 😀 if ever I jump,so debarred me from learning swimming !

    1. hehehe…i learnt swimming 2 years back tapas…..its great fun and sure way of loosing wtg…and u dont hv to jump…just walk down…

  6. accha i had mentioned this in the earlier post – I dont use sunscreen unfortunately..never used it so far But I would like to so please tell me which one is better – sunblock or sunscreen. I plan to stick with Lakme.

I am assuming its for the face and the body. Pls do pardon my ignorance but can the same be used for face and body or should I be buying seperate ones? what do you’ll recommend for Oily skin..

    Thanks in advance.

    1. aruna for oily skin you may try the lotus sunblock spf 40 3 in 1.. 🙂

I have asked FG to review the sunscreen for oily skin from the lakme range so let’s see. :))

    2. Heyyy Aruna…sorry didnt comment earlier…but you looked awesome in the photos…love love love you in alll the outfits…the cocktail one was my fav..and the first one..coorgi kinds 🙂

      1. Thank you thank you. you have all been so very generous in your compliments so thank you from the bottom from my heart. love you guys.. :-*

    3. See sunblock does not penetrate into skin just acts as a barrier so even if it contains parabens or anything wont affect your skin, but sunscreen gets absorbed into skin and provides sun protection, sunblock is more effective in providing you prtection from both UVA and UVB rays effectively but sunscreen may provide full protection to UVA rays which is cancer causing.Yes sunscreen or sunblock can be used on face, arms and neck,no need to buy two separate ones, I bought two because of cost factor! For oily skin donot try Neutregena spf 50 at all, you may use lakme sunscreen spf 30 for oily skin, and lotus sunscreen also ! Hope this helps ! :))

      1. that helps a lot..i shall wait for the review but I shall definitely be picking up the lakme sunscreen..thanks a ton for your inputs.

  7. i’m getting it for sure :yahoo: :yahoo: .. cant keep using my lotus 1 for the body too.. it gets over sooo soonn.. 😐 😐 .. thanx for the post tapas.. :thanks: :pompom:

  8. I got the middle sized one..for 95 I guess n I got dove soap free.. :p
me quite like it but..I like dat it gets absorbed..spf 50 one is a lil thick…:(

    1. Woww Dove soap freee ,awesome offer !! I didnt like the lakme fruit blast facewash at all :yuck: ,was very drying,so using it as bodywash, lathers pretty good.

  9. the Lakm suncreen is too oily and the face wash is also not too good feel after use.i too din like to buy these again.

    1. Oily you said?????? I dont think so,anyways if your skin is oily you should use the one lakme sunexpert spf 30
