Concealer For Dark Circles : MAC Select Cover Up Concealer Review

This review is about the MAC Select Cover Up Concealer , which is found in many Youtube video about makeup. For those of you who have not purchased one yet, this review will help you make a decision about whether it is worth your money.
Being one of those people how have quite dark eye circles, I am always looking for a good concealer especially for the under eye area. Of course, an under eye concealer should be able to neutralize the darkness and the blue colour of the circles without being cakey or prominent. The good thing about the MAC concealer is that it covers well, and is invisible if blended properly. I purchased the MAC Select Cover Up Concealer in NW35, a slightly yellowy shade because I wanted to use it for the under eye area.

The concealer comes packaged in a nice black box, which gives it a premium feel. Inside is a small, fat tube with 10ml of this concealer inside.

The box is relatively blank, giving only the ingredients of the product, and that it is made in Canada. There are no claims made on the tube or the box, as the reputation of MAC products tend to speak for them. But the website claims,
Liquid camouflage for the skin. Texture-free, virtually invisible. Comes in a tube. Blends in. Brightens and lightens dark areas, erases spots, evens-out skin tones. Makes skin flaw-free. Use pre-foundation, or on its own. Don’t reveal it, conceal it!

The tube has a small nozzle with a screw on lid. The nozzle is perfect for dispensing the product. You may find it too small at first, but there is a reason for this. The concealer is highly pigmented, and you will need less than a drop to conceal your circles. I found the nozzle quite helpful in getting the right amount of product out, without wasting any. The tube seems to be small and the product expensive, but it will last you a long time before it runs out. You can see the nozzle below:

The product itself is very good, if not brilliant. The concealer is highly pigmented, so I can get good coverage by using a small amount. I only had to apply a thin layer. You can achieve the desired coverage without having to layer too much on, which means that it does not look cakey at all. You can see from the pictures that it gives good coverage when applied and blended.

The only criticism that I may have is that it is highly opaque, and needs to be blended properly to prevent it from seeming as if you have applied paint under your eyes. You will need to blend out the edges so that the transition is smooth. However, if well blended, you can use this even when you do not want to wear foundation. This is a big plus for all those who have dark circles and can’t apply foundation and concealer, as most concealers are made for using after you have applied your foundation.

One word of caution before you go out and buy this product. The concealer does not have a high lighting effect, and if you prefer a radiant eye area like Kim Kardashain’s, you will have to go over it with a lighter concealer or a highlighter. However, in terms of concealing the dark circles, the product is excellent.

I wouldn’t advise that you use the same concealer shade for your under eye area and blemishes on your face, as under eye concealers are selected so they have a yellowy tone to hide blues. If you want to conceal blemishes on your face, I would recommend some lighter shade than NW35. The price? Expect to pay around a 100aed for this product.

Pros of MAC Select Cover Up Concealer :

1. Very good coverage – medium to full
2. Highly pigmented
3. Will cover even the worst of dark circles
4. Can be worn without foundation and it will not be prominent
5. Only a small amount is needed to get the desired effect
6. Application is not cakey

Cons of MAC Select Cover Up Concealer :

1. Will need more than one shade if you intend to use it to conceal blemishes and under eye circles
2. If you don’t have very dark pigmentation to hide, you won’t see as drastic results
3. Price might be a drawback for some (though the quality is worth the price)
4. Must be blended properly as it is quite opaque
