Kat Von D Plum Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad Review

Hello everyone,

I am a huge fan of Kat Von D’s makeup line. I have had a great experience with all of her eyeshadows including the original “Shade + Light” eye palette. So, when she released these new “shade + light” eye quads, having high hopes, I got them as soon as I could.  This review will be on the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in “Plum.”

My Experience with Kat Von D Plum Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad:

Packaging:  Kat Von D’s packaging is always so cool and edgy, just like her. These eyeshadows come in a plastic, coffin-shaped box. The box does close securely but it feels kind of flimsy and very lightweight. It has a decent-sized mirror inside which I like.

Texture and Feel:  I was surprised to see how incredibly dusty some of the shadows in this quad are. The quality feels different, slightly inferior to the original “Shade + Eye” palette, which I am not too happy about; though I didn’t experience a whole lot of fall out when I went to apply these shades. These eyeshadows are quite smooth and velvety to touch, my only issue is that they kick up a whole lot of powder when you dip your brush in.

Pigmentation and Shade:
palette

Base: This is beautiful light peachy-pink shade. Even though a light color, it has amazing pigmentation and shows up quite clearly on the skin. I love using this not only as an all-over lid shade to set a primer; it is also great to blend out in the crease. It can also be used by itself on the lid with a similar color which is a shade or two deeper in the crease for a soft effortless romantic eye look. This particular shade is quite dusty and kicks up a lot of powder.

Define: It’s a deep plum shade. It has great pigmentation and is easy to blend and diffuse in the crease without getting muddy. The pigmentation is strong enough and if you take it on an angled liner brush, you could draw eyeliner with it. This particular shade is not as dusty as the other but still kicks up some powder.

Contour: This is a grey-lilac color. This shade does complement all the other colors in the palette. Pigmentation is good and I use it to blend out the crease or as a transition color. This particular shade is also a bit dusty.

Highlight: It’s a nice pale lilac undertone white shade. This shade also is quite chalky and kicks up a lot of powder with the slightest dip. It has decent pigmentation but has to be built up to pop.

Staying Power:  The shadows wear well for about 6-7 hours before starting to fade and perform better over a primer than without one. There is no creasing with these shades, but they do feel a bit too dry on my lids.

Overall, I had high expectation from these eyeshadows, having been impressed with the Orignal Shade + Light palette, but I was left a bit unimpressed. I wouldn’t call these the worst eyeshadows as they do work well, have good pigmentation, and smooth-velvety texture. The colors are so well coordinated that creating an eye look is a no-brainer, hence even great for beginners, but they were a bit too powdery and dusty for my liking. So, for me, these are not the best, but definitely not the worst; falling somewhere in the middle.

In the EOTD, I have used “Base” all over the lid, applied “Define” in the crease blended out with the “Contour” shade. I have applied “Highlight” over the brow bone and the inner corner, smudged the “Define” shade on the lower lash line and added a purple pencil eyeliner on the lid and a nude eyeliner on the waterline to open up the eyes.
