It’s very important to consume the right set of food before a workout. However, consuming wrong food can make you feel lethargic and low on energy. Some of them suffer from stomach aches and muscle cramps after consuming the wrong type of food. So, I am going to talk about the foods which you should prevent consuming before a workout.

1. Stay Away From Veggies and Salads:
You should stay away from veggies and salads like kale, broccoli, sprouts etc., as they may lead to bloating and gas issues before the workout session. These veggies and salads contain complex carbs which are hard to digest thus, leading to bloating and gastric problems in a person. Also, they may interfere with the production of hormones in the body.
2. Whole Grain Bread:
Whole grain bread and muffins contain a high amount of carbs and are gluten bound which means they cause inflammation by holding the water for too long in the body. Consuming whole grain bread before a workout can lead to bloating and stomach pain. Instead, you can consume one banana with yoghurt or a bowl full of oats and fresh berries.
3. Raw Seeds:
Stay away from raw seeds as it may cause stomach discomfort and bloating issues. If you want to add raw seeds in your pre-workout meal, you can add your favourite roasted seeds with a half cup of oatmeal. The combination of fat, protein, and carbohydrate is the what your body needs to perform at its best.
4. High Fibre Food:
A human body relies on glycogen to keep its blood sugar levels stable and also maintain energy. Consuming foods that are high in fibre before a workout can irritate the digestive tract thus, leading to digestive problems while working out. So, you should always stay away from food which contains a high amount of fibre.
5. Spicy Food:
According to studies, it is said that consuming spicy food before a workout may lead to digestion problems. Spicy food is excellent to increase metabolism in the body but, it should be avoided before a workout as it may irritate the bowel movement. So, stay away from food with much of seasoning and flavours as they require a lot of time to be digested.
6. Bean Based Food or Dip:
Bean based food are high in indigestible carbs that may cause uncomfortable gas and bloating problems. Also, they contain sodium which holds water for a longer period of time thus, leading to bloating issues. The bean-based food can bloat the intestine due to insoluble and complex fibre content in it. Also, the fibre content is equal to carbohydrate content in the beans and hence the body needs more time to digest it properly.
Consuming sugar before a workout can create a havoc in the human body. Consuming sugar just before a workout can make you feel exhausted and also irritate the stomach. As soon as you consume sugar loaded products, blood sugar rises to an unexpected level giving you an instant energy. Insulin then takes it out and sends it to the muscle tissues, causing your energy levels to crash down.
8. Fat foods:
Stay away from foods that are rich in fat before a workout because converting fats into energy takes a lot of time by the body. Consuming fat food can make you feel exhausted, tired and sluggish before your training session. Avoid consuming cheese, fish, nuts or fat rich food before a workout.
