7 Beauty Products for the Perfect Night-time Skincare Routine

Hi everyone,

Today’s post is all about finding the right nighttime skincare routine for yourself. Just as most of us have a morning skincare routine (which essentially entails a cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine) in place, a nighttime skincare routine is equally essential to keep your skin healthy and youthful. Many of us get too tired by the end of the day and just collapse into bed without even cleansing our skin properly. Needless to say, this is a really bad habit that can lead to damaged and prematurely-aged skin.

Following a nighttime skincare routine can not only be time consuming but it can also be very confusing, given the number of beauty and skincare products available in the market. This is why I have chosen to narrow down the complex process to just seven essentials that you will need for the perfect nighttime skincare routine. You can, of course, make certain modifications to this based on your skin type and other skin concerns that you may have.

1. An oil-based cleanser:

Using an oil-based cleanser at the end of the day will help breakdown all the makeup and remove dirt and impurities from the skin, while still keeping the skin hydrated.

Recommendation:  The Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Oil

2. A face mask:

Once you are done cleansing your face, you can use a face mask once or twice a week to either deep cleanse and remove dead cells (using a clay or mud cleanser) or to provide your skin with an extra boost of hydration (moisturizing face mask).

Recommendation: Glam Glow Supermud Mask or Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask.

3. A facial oil or serum:

A facial oil or serum is an essential in your nighttime skincare routine. An oil or serum does multiple beneficial things for your skin, right from giving it youthful radiance, promoting cell regeneration, keeping the skin hydrated and youthful, preventing fine lines and wrinkles, curing acne and pimples, etc. Choose a Vitamin C or Vitamin E serum, or use a blend of essential seed oils.

4. A night cream:

Once you have applied your facial oil or serum, it’s a good idea to follow this up with an ultra-hydrating moisturizing cream or lotion (depending on the formula that works best for your skin type). This will lock in the moisture and make sure that the products you have used before work even better. This will also ensure that your skin is soft and plump the next day.

Recommendation:  Clinique Repairwear Sculpting Night Cream

5. An eye cream:

Dermatologists recommend the use of an eye cream from as early an age as 25, if not before. An eye cream protects the very delicate area under your eyes, reducing puffiness and dark circles and preventing the onset of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

Recommendation: Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream

6.  A lip balm:

No skincare routine can be complete without a lip balm. Once your lips are cleansed and exfoliated, make sure to apply a generous coat of an ultra-hydrating lip balm that will keep your lips soft and nourished. The lip balm that you use before bed need not contain SPF or be tinted.

Recommendation:  Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

7. A hand cream:

Finally, to bring your nighttime skincare routine to a close, use a nourishing hand cream. Pick a hand cream that hydrates your hands super-well without leaving a greasy residue. Your hands do all the work for you, so it’s especially important to make sure you tend to them every night.

In addition to using these essential skincare products, make sure to drink enough water throughout the day and before bed, and make sure you’re sleeping on soft and clean pillowcases to keep your skin in great condition.

  1. Great tips! I try not to use oil-based cleansers because I have an oily skin and this wouldn’t benefit me much.
Besides the 7 products previously mentioned, I also use a nourishing foot cream. I think it’s very important to hydrate out feet too. They are put through so much during the day that they also deserve a special treatment.
