My Take on Burt’s Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream:

I am a big fan of Burt’s Bees products.  Most of their products are 100% natural and “sulfate/paraben/petrochemicals free.”  I picked this cleansing cream on my recent trip to the US.  The SA told me that it was one of their bestsellers. I was looking for a good makeup remover, but I hate those oily liquid removers, which make my face greasy.  Since I have a very sensitive and oily skin (open pores too :waaa:), I am very careful while buying creams and face washes. The SA assured me that it would control my oily T-zone, she must have noticed it on my face.  So, I ended up buying it.

I was super excited to try it (new products always do that to me!) :haanji:   I splashed some water on my face and squeezed out a coin sized. The smell was very mild, fresh and lemony.  I was a little disappointed by the texture of the cream, it was sort of slippery and difficult to spread.  Anyway, I massaged the cream on my face, trying to avoid the eye area, but I managed to get some near my eye and my eyes started to tingle along with my face.

This cream causes a tingling sensation on the face, I guess it is due to the menthol content. It does not lather at all. I have mixed feeling about the cleanser.  It managed to remove oil, foundation off my face, but my gel liner kajal was quite stubborn and refused to fade.  Affter washing my face, I could still find traces of kajal, but what I loved the best was the icy-tingling feeling, which stayed till an hour after washing off the cleanser.

My skin though did not look dry, but I definitely felt “the stretch” in the skin.  I guess that’s why it’s recommended to apply a moisturizer after using the cream.

It did give me soft skin and a matte effect for 2 hours, but my skin started feeling oily after that.  There was no change in pore size.  It definitely does not control sebum, like the SA claimed!! I think it’s more suited for people with normal or combination skin. I think it can be too drying for dry skin beauties.

Pros of Burt’s Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream:

  • Did not break me out or cause any irritation to the skin.

Cons of Burt’s Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream:

  • Cream is slippery in texture, making it difficult to spread on a wet face.
  • You can feel the menthol effect in your eyes while applying the cream (menthol content can cause irritation to some people).
  • Skin may feel dry, one will need a moisturizer.
  • Leaves skin soft.
  • Does not control sebum, no change in pore size.
  • Oil is back within 2 hours.
  • Not suited for oily or dry-skinned people.
  • Does not remove heavy eye makeup.
  • Non-availability in India.
  • Expensive for a cleanser.
  • No shelf life specified.

Do I Recommend/Will I Repurchase Burt’s Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream?

It’s an average cleanser.  There is nothing exceptionally good or bad about it.  If you find it, buy it (because of the all natural content), but its nothing to die for. I don’t think I shall buy it again.  I bought it 2 months back and still half of it is left. I also bought some other goodies from Burt’s Bees which I shall be reviewing soon.

  5. I, too, love Burt’s Bees! Especially this cleanser. A lot of natural products don’t really lather, a downside to a lot of bad stuff not being in there.
    Nice review.
