I am done with this hot and intolerable weather of Kolkata. Though I don’t sweat much, but this weather has already taken a heavy toll on the skin. I came across this newly launched Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask range from Innisfree and decided to grab a few of them. Among all the variants, I picked their “Hydrating” and “Cica” Color Clay mask because, my skin gets really sensitive but dry and develops rashes during summer. My Experience with Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask Hydrating:
Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask has been launched in 7 different variants: Calming, Purifying, Refining, Vitalizing, Brightening, Cica and Hydrating. This range is really good for you if you are into multi-masking and go for specialised skin treatments as per your skin concerns. I have dry skin around my cheek area, so I picked the ‘Hydrating’ mask for providing better nourishment to the skin.
Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask Hydrating comes packed in a pale blue coloured cardboard carton which houses all the details about the product including product description and ingredient list both in Korean and English. Inside this carton comes the original tube that contains the color clay mask. The colour of this tube is also pale blue in colour which is similar to the colour of the cardboard carton. The tube comes with a brown coloured cap which closes tightly with a light click. The packaging is safe to carry when you travel around and will not cause unwanted spillage. It is actually quite convenient and hygienic to use since it comes in tube-like form rather than in a tub-like form. You just have to carefully squeeze out product from the tube to avoid any unwanted wastage. It comes in a 70 ml tube and retails for Rs 700 which I think is a bit high for the quantity offered. But, this will not be a big issue since you would not need large amount of product. Overall, I love the colour-themed packaging and its sturdiness. It is simple but it is pretty.
The Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask range comes in three types of formulations- water-gel clay, cream clay and transforming texture. The variant “Hydrating” that I have got has a water-clay based texture. It is pale blue in colour and the consistency is very thin, more on the watery side. Since the texture is thin, you would need a small amount of product to cover your entire face. It contains Hyaluronic acid as a chief ingredient which I really love. The texture is very smooth and creamy and it spreads on the face very easily. The formula is lightweight and does not cause any discomfort. It has no significant fragrance, but if you take a close sniff, then you will get a typical clay kind of smell.
I need about two coin-sized pumps to cover my face. I apply this with a face brush since it helps to apply different types of masks at targeted areas with better handling. I apply the “Hydrating” mask on the areas where I aim for a good hydration. My face is oily in the T-zone and the forehead area. So, leaving that, I apply this on the cheeks and jaw line area which is drier. You can choose to apply such kind of masks based on your needs. I apply a thick layer of this mask; keep it for 20-25 minutes for more effective results. It dries up quite fast, in about 10 minutes. On drying, it settles to a mattified bluish clay look. After 20-25 minutes, I massage it gently and then wash it off with normal water. I have no problem to rinse it off as the clay layer formed is very thin and does not have sticky consistency. There is no need to follow up with regular toner and moisturizer as it is a hydrating mask and never dries out your skin. Overall, the formula is very gentle to the skin and it doesn’t feel stretchy.
The effect of this mask stays for about 2 days. So, I have to use this 3 times a week. It is disappointing that the results are not long-staying because it is quite expensive.
Now coming to the efficacy of this mask, the first and foremost thing that I need to say is that it suited my skin well. There were no breakouts. Results are not immediate, so you have to be patient to see the full effect. After returning from a day of tiresome work when your skin parches for some moisture, this mask will do wonders in no time. On applying it, I get a relaxing feel and a very pleasant sensation. I have dull and dry skin problem and this mask addresses these issues well. It shrinks the pores and improves the texture of the skin. My dull and lifeless skin gets a nice glow as a result of this. All the stressful feeling is gone and my skin feels super-refreshed. I did not develop any blackheads or whiteheads after using this. So far, so good!!
It also acts as a good cleanser and deeply unclogs the pores and removes all dirt and impurities. My skin feels squeaky clean and bright. It will be a good mask for all types of skin.
The main concern that I had was dryness and it is also solved, but I would not say that it is a super-hydrating mask. It is a decent clay-based mask which makes your skin soft and smooth but do not expect excess hydration. It provides decent amount of nourishment to your skin, but will not do miracles in dry skin problem. There is one thing that is nice about this product is that even if you have oily skin, this will not make your face look shiny. It is great to be used for summers. I have been it using it for over a month and I have noticed supple skin with regular use. But, let me tell you that using this mask alone as a mitigating agent for dryness will not suffice. Especially, if you have dry skin concern, you have to use a couple of products meant for dryness like a good moisturiser, serum and definitely a good mask.
Overall, I feel this is a decent mask for summers which gives a fresh look to my skin and makes it look healthy. If you want something for hydration specifically, this product will not very beneficial for you. But if you love clay-based masks and enjoy a mild skin treatment, then you may try this. I may not buy this again because I keep hoarding new products. It is definitely not the best masks that I have used till date, but it has not disappointed me either. I would have been happier if the results were long-lasting.
