Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour 2-Step Lip Color – Cinnamon Stay
I’m back with a lip colour review after a long time. I was looking for a “long stay” lip colour to wear with sarees and salwars. I wear my lipsticks, tinted lip balms, etc., for work and when I go out. In these cases, I don’t mind touching up throughout the day, but on festival days and when I go for weddings, parties, etc., I don’t want touching up throughout the day. I tried lip stains, they were okay, but the look was not natural. With those, I felt like I had used felt pen on my lips. At the end, it came down to Maybelline and the 24-hour super stay lip colour they had to offer.
I bought this from a “Priceline”store in Melbourne. There was a range of colours available, and after trying some and also after deciding which colour will suit most of my sarees and salwars, I decided to purchase “Cinnamon Stay.” It is a nude brown colour and I visualised myself wearing it and it did look good enough to spend $21.95. Maybelline had a 16-hour ColorStay Lip Colour before this and now they have either re-formulated or just re-packaged it into a “24-hour colour.”
This is a two-step formula because it contains the lip colour at one end and a lip balm on the other. The lip colour is to be used first and then the lip balm should be used on top of it.
Why You Would Love Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour 2-Step Lip Color – Cinnamon Stay:
Meet the 24-hour lipcolor that stretches the limits of long wear:
- Micro-Flex formula glides on and looks gorgeous all day.
- No crumbling, no caking, no fading, no feathering, no transferring.
- Two-step lipcolor in one pack.
- 30 long-lasting shades.
Directions For Use:
Apply the liquid color to your clean, bare lips. Allow a full two minutes to dry, then apply ultra-conditioning balm to seal in softness. Reapply balm as needed. Remove with an oil-based makeup remover.
My Take on Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour 2-Step Lip Color – Cinnamon Stay:
The lip colour is of a thick consistency and is very well pigmented. As soon as you apply it on to the lips, it feels heavy. It dries quickly and makes your lips feel dry. However, as soon as you apply the balm, it gives a nice glossy finish. It also looks more natural after application of the balm. With regards to the staying power, this lip colour is definitely a winner.
Even when I applied only one coat of the lip colour and then topped it off with the balm, it stayed on throughout the party. I didn’t have to re-touch even with constant eating and drinking. After coming home, I couldn’t remove it just with water and tissue paper, I had to use oil-based makeup remover. Even after using oil-based remover, there was still a light tint of colour, which only went off the following morning.
It does what it says; it almost stayed on for at least 15-20 hours, even though I removed it at the end of it. There is actually no need for any makeup to stay on for 24 hours. I tried using the balm on top of some other lip colours I had, but it didn’t work well, it just got stained. So this balm is for specific use with this lip colour.
Another thing worthy of mention is that to get this swatch, I applied a little bit on my hands and had so much trouble trying to wash it off. My only worry is that to have made this lip color so long lasting, they would have used loads of chemicals and strong formulations, so this is definitely not something I’d use on a day-to-day basis.
Pros of Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour 2-Step Lip Color – Cinnamon Stay:
- This is a long-stay lip colour, which delivers what it promises.
- The texture is more natural compared to lip stains.
- The balm gives a more natural glossy sheen.
- Stays put throughout eating, drinking and constant cups of coffee sipping.
Cons of Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour 2-Step Lip Color – Cinnamon Stay:
- Compared to other lipsticks, this product is more prone to drying and flaking if the lip balm is not reapplied.
- The tube that holds the balm is quite flimsy, not well packaged.
- Priced high at AUD 21.95.
- Does not smell good, has a synthetic fragrance.
- Because of the thick and long-stay formulation, it might contain strong chemicals, so shouldn’t be used regularly.
I am fairly satisfied with this product, even though it has its drawbacks. Will repurchase it until I find a better long-lasting lip colour within my budget.
