Neutrogena Deep Clean Foaming Cleanser Review

tube
Hello IMBB Beauties! Today I’m reviewing Neutrogena Deep Clean foaming cleanser. My skin is a constant source of trouble for me. When I first started having breakouts and I realized I need to start using products meant for my skin type, I switched to tea tree oil products after reading so much about them. While they helped over time, my skin started getting dryer and more lifeless while the occasional breakouts continued. I switched to other products for normal skin and my skin improved a bit. I tried a lot of face washes but most of them, while they gave me clean bright look, did not cleanse my clogged pores. I was looking for a face wash that would remove all traces of dirt, oil etc from my face while deep cleansing the pores. Having heard so much about Neutrogena face washes for oily acne prone skin, I purchased this face wash. Here’s the review-

Price: Rs 85
Quantity: 50 g (comes in a larger tube also)

What the packaging says about the product

• Oil free
• Non- comodogenic
• Dermatologically tested
packaging
Through cleansing with long-lasting oil control for the deepest feeling clean.
packaging
Neutrogena is a refreshing facial cleanser that thoroughly removes dirt, oil and dead skin cells while providing long lasting oil control to improve the look and feel of skin. This clean-rinsing cleanser lathers to a rich creamy foam that dissolves and washes away oil, dirt and skin-dulling impurities that can build up in pores. Oil control formula helps reduce surface oil to keep skin fresh. Skin feels completely clean and refreshed, soft and smooth.
cap
My experience: This face wash comes in a white tube packaging with a flip cap. The cap fits in tightly to there is no danger of spillage. The product however starts accumulating at the mouth as is the case with most products with flip cap packaging. The product itself is pearly white in colour and has a creamy consistency. The look and consistency actually reminded me of shaving cream. A very small amount of product produces enough lather to cover entire face and neck. It has a mild refreshing fragrance that I really liked it.
product swatch
From the description given on the packaging, it sounded perfect- deep cleansing, refreshing and oil controlling while improving look and feel of the skin. Unfortunately though, this did not suit my skin at all. The fragrance and lather was quite refreshing but the formula is too drying. It strips the skin of all oils leaving a very dry stretchy feeling. On wiping my face after washing with it, the dry patches around my mouth and nose looked very prominent and I had to use a lot of moisturizer to make my skin look normal and hydrated. I do however like the clean feeling I get after using this face wash. Because of its drying and oil stripping formula, it also dries out some small tiny pimples. I feel it should be mentioned on the packaging that its meant for very oily skin.

PROs of Neutrogena Deep Clean Foaming Cleanser

1. Sturdy flip cap packaging- spill proof , hygienic and travel friendly
2. Refreshing fragrance
3. Very little amount gives a lot of lather- enough for face and neck
4. Removes all dirt and oil from the face
5. Skin appears clean after washing- gives a deep clean ‘feeling’
6. Oil-free, non-comodogenic, dermatologically tested
7. Cleansed my pores well.
8. Good quantity price- very little amount is required so it’ll last me a long time.
9. Dried out small pimples
10. Neutrogena is quite easily available.

CONs of Neutrogena Deep Clean Foaming Cleanser

1. Product tends to accumulate at the mouth of the tube in the flip cap
2. Formula is too drying – skin feels stretchy and dry after washing.
3. Doesn’t remove waterproof makeup easily.
4. It should be mentioned on the packaging that it is meant for very oily skin.

Overall verdict : The tube packaging is sturdy, hygienic and travel friendly. It has a refreshing fragrance and deep cleansing action that removes all dirt and oil from face giving a clean feeling also drying out small pimples. Very little product produces a lot of lather and thus will last a long time. The formula however was too drying for my normal/oily skin and made my skin stretchy and dry. It did not suit me but would suit very oily skinned people perfectly.

Rating : 3.75/5
Will I repurchase : No, unless my skin becomes very very oily.

  1. I used it for almost 6 months, one of the best cleansers I have ever used..it dried out my pimples so well, without leaving any scars.Though as the winters approach it got a lot drying and I switched to Liquid Neutrogena. Now that you have reminded me of this,i might go back to it for a while

PS : Have you tried the Deep clean scrub ? its very gentle and not at all drying

    1. I use Cetaphil on a regular basis but occasionally I use Neutrogena deep clean- the mustard colored gel kind in a bottle- I like that one very much! No i’ve not used the scrub but will try it once I’m through with my present khazana of scrubs :balle:

      1. I never liked neutrogena deep clean’s liquid version, felt like it wasnt doin anything at all :(( :(( :((

I for now am completely off scrubs,my skin has been getting a lot of rashes all over, may be due to the heat so I am waiting them to subside and then will try other scrubs 😀 😀 😀

  2. I have used several cleansers but this was the best so far,n ya wat u have described is correct 2, i got this free with neutregena sunblock, u see 😀

    1. It just dried out some of the smaller pimples I had. Have you tried the acne clearing one from Neutrogena ?

    1. Thank you Mrunmayee :pompom: You could the mustard-ish gel one from Neutrogena..Its gentle and cleansing..I quite like it. But nothing beats Cetaphil!

      1. OMG!!!! So many reccos for Cetaphil… I must try it now!!!! :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails 😀 😀 😀

  6. meant for very oily skin u mean??? i need to grab this tomw it self!!! :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog:

  7. I had used it a few months back,I have really oily skin but this facewash actually irritated my facial skin, leaving it red and sensitive 🙁 .Its way too drying and I had the same dry patches you mentioned.
I had high hopes from neutrogena but it completely disappointed me :((
Now I use himalaya neem face wash and it works wonders

  8. i used half of this
this rips of the oil even from extremely oily skin
n for fiveminutes ur skin looks like u have applied a thick layer fo fair n lovely
n i feel like it has sucked the moisture (of whatever i have ) from my skin
its way too drying even for the oiliest of skins

best balancing face wash is the green wala from ponds
its an EVERGREEN PRODUCT N THE CHEAPEST IN THE MARKET! :mirror: :methinks:

  9. Formula too drying.. Not for me. :nonono: :nonono: :nono: :nono: :nono:

aise bhi na Ankita, everything i have so far from neutrogena has failed on me. :pan:

    1. :bash: I think the products meant for oily skin in their range are better. You could try the hand cream though. My mum has very dry hands and she likes it very much! :manicure: :manicure: :manicure:

  10. its a dhinchak facewash…i used it when i had super oily skin n it worked dhinchakly..used it for almost 6 months..now i have oily-combi skin..so switched to other brand

      1. @ankita
m givin cetaphil a try abi..n its workin good..though it too cant remove makeup alone..bdw i have used cetaphil for oily skin before..that wz pretty dryin too..sometimes i switch between ceta n himalaya neem :)..hwz ur experience wid cetaphil? n wch 1 r u usin?

        1. I love cetaphil! I’m on my third bottle now. I use the one for sensitive skin and I remove my makeup with that only. Just let it stay on the waterproof makeup for a few seconds and then remove. That way it removes waterproof mascara also.

          1. oh..never thought of it..yeah m usin cetaphil meant for sensitive skin only..tonight will try on its makeup removin powers
            :thanks:

  11. Mine is combi skin so this would dry my cheeks and forehead :((
I had used Neutrogena face wash before but it did not suit me. Clinique is fine for me right now!!

    1. This was my first experience with Neutrogena products. I have another gel like wash which I like very much! Clinique’s working pretty well for you, you stick to it :teddy:

      1. yeah….Clinique is just perfect for my skin…suited well. :))
hey did u get my sms? I had sent u in morning on ur other number. Actually I did not come bandra. My frnds met at Churchgate only. I got ur sms then….I was wondering u got my sms or not. ?:) ?:)

        1. Ya I got it. I’d also messaged u ard 1.30 n then later in the evening. I didn’t get delivery report so don’t know if they reached. Anyway I was also saying can’t make it today..will see u Sunday :mirror:

  12. Ankita….I think you should try clean and clear also…….it does not dry out the skin like other face washes…….you said it right, we tend to use products meant for oily skin and end up with dry skin…..same pinch :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:

    1. Ya I’ve tried it and I liked it also. :high5: Then I finished it and tried Neutrogena. This one was too drying but the other one- the gel like yellow-mustard colored one is quite good!

  13. Nice review Ankita…even one of my friends said the same thing about this being too drying, the reason why I didn’t get this one. Thanks for the review!! 🙂 🙂

  14. ive used this.
    worked okeish
nothing really that would keep the painful new acne from emerging and clear the present scars.
yes am on cetaphil too but need better
the liquid neutrogena frm neutrogena is the best available from all 3.
and the pictures in this review are so clear ankita.
    loved it

  15. I have used this & i really liked this. I will surely pick it up soon. As of now, I am happy with Cetaphil, It’s so light & nice.

  16. I will try this out cos I have break-out prome skin – but I might wait till after the rains, cos I dont want my skin drying out that much. Practically no facewash works for me – the himalaya oil balance one was decent (did you try that? not neem.).

    1. I’ve not tried Himalaya Oil Balance Shai. I like Deep clean liquid one from neutrogena..the gel like one but my all time fav is Cetaphil. Do try it out..its really gentle and quite effective..removes waterproof makeup also if you let it stay on it for a few seconds.

  17. I have this cleanser right now , and as it does leave the skin feeling refreshed and make you feel like it is good for the skin . Its doesnt put my acne to gone . It feels really good but if it doesnt put away the acne then whats the point of having a cleanser . yes it does dry your skin , and yes the first time its like WOAH i need mosturize now .. Then ur skin gets use to it and using the cleanser its an amzing feeling , feeling the skin and going yep it feels great . But still acne still there i guess its a good cleanser just not the best ../
