Colors:

Prune is a very beautiful deep matte purple plum color, I love this color. It would go with all plum, maroon and purple lipsticks and glosses.

Lip Pencil

Expresso is a medium chocolate brown color which would go with brown lipsticks.

My Take on NYX Long Pencil For Lips in Prune and Expresso:

True to their name, the pencils are quite long. They have elegant, slim black packaging with the name and color at the end, which makes them easy to locate.

I generally use these lip pencils as lip liners. The texture is just okay, not very outstanding but not very bad also. It is soft and smooth. The pencils are creamy but not very moisturizing. They feel a bit drying if applied as lip colors, but feels fine if used as lip liners. There might be a slight tugging when used as a lip color.

Prune

The lip liner in Prune sharpens very easily and smoothly with an ordinary sharpener, but I have a problem with the Expresso one.  It sharpens with great difficulty and the tip keeps on breaking. There’s a lot of product wastage.

The pigmentation is decent. Prune gives intense color in a single swipe and Expresso needs to be swiped twice for the desired color. Prune doesn’t settle in fine lines, nor does it gives uneven patchy finish. Expresso has to be swiped multiple times if used as a lip color and gives patchy end result.

Staying power is 3-4 hours with meal. They help to prevent bleeding of lipstick when used as lip liner.

Now, the swatches:

You can see from the swatches why I don’tlike the texture of Expresso:

Pros of NYX Long Pencil For Lips in Prune and Expresso:

  • Both the colors are pretty and versatile, especially when used as lip liners.
  • Glide on smoothly.
  • Holds the lipsticks from bleeding.
  • Gives an opaque coverage.
  • Decently pigmented, especially the Prune one.
  • Decent staying power.
  • Decently priced.
  • Prune sharpens very easily.
  • Doesn’t settle in fine lines.
  • Packaging is simple, sleek and easy to locate.
  • Versatile shade collection – 60 shades.

Cons of NYX Long Pencil For Lips in Prune and Expresso:

  • Cannot be used without a lip balm if used as lip colors.
  • Expresso sharpens very roughly and the tip keeps on breaking.
  • Expresso lip pencil gives a very patchy and uneven result. I can’t use it as a lip color.
  • Tugging might be required.

Will I Repurchase/Do I Recommend NYX Long Pencil For Lips in Prune and Expresso?

Honestly, I am very confused.  I have very few problems with my Prune lip pencil and I will have no second thoughts at getting it again, but I am very disappointed with Expresso.  How can the same product be so different in two colors? There might be a problem with the pencil I have.  So, if you like the colors and plan to buy these, please make sure about the piece you get in Expresso.  These lip pencils are not must have, but if you like to try different colors, you should get these.

Hope you like my review. Have a nice day!
