How to Wear Maxi Dress
Summer dressing can be defined in just one word- easy. And maxi dresses are just about that! From cute florals for the day and sexy silkies for the nights, a maxi dress will take you wherever you are headed- in style! They are great for women of all ages. These breezy dresses will not let you sweat on a hot day. This is boho fashion at its best. Let’s see the guidelines on how to wear maxi dress.
A few things to remember while putting together your outfit:
Length- you can experiment with various lengths depending on your height. The most common length is the one that ends at your ankles. An inch above is also acceptable if you carry it off with the right shoes. Whatever the length is, it should not be longer than where your feet start or you will be swamped in a sea of fabric.
Shape- if you are new to maxi dresses you might feel a little shapeless wearing one. But some clever accessories should solve this. A high waisted belt (the breadth of which should be decided according to how big is the print on the fabric) or a fitted short waistcoat (studded or printed or textured..be creative!) or a beaded neck piece will bring back the shape of your body.
Prints or plains- well, that is totally your choice. The fabric you choose will decide how formal or casual the dress is. Plain sheer fabrics are great for a day out or for the beach and silks are preferred for formal night occasions.
Shoes- the best option or strappy wedges ofcourse! Nothing is more summery than a maxi dress paired with gorgeous wedges. For a more formal look double platform sandals will look killer with maxi dresses. If you donβt want to add inches to your height then you can also go for flat sandals that are beaded or studded.
Bag- a slouchy boho or a big tote would be the best option. Small messenger bag will also do as long as its strap doesnβt fall awkwardly across the loose body of the dress. Avoid anything structured or handheld.
For petite women
You need a more structured maxi than anyone else. Look for dresses with empire waistlines or one with a belt to tie across the thinnest part of your waist. V necks and dark colours like black, olive green, deep purple, and dark brown works best. Avoid horizontal and large patterns. And always wear wedges or high heels sandals with maxi.
For plus size women
Contrary to popular beliefs, long dresses like maxis work well with plus size women as it minimises big legs and waists. Women with wide or big bust should avoid noodle straps and go in for thick straps or even halter necks. Choose solid colours like dark brown, black and dark blue and medium to large prints. Go for v necks always and avoid loose fitting dresses.

I’ve always wanted to wear maxi dresses but was afraid I’d look even shorter in them (am 5’1″), so thanks for the tips. :)) Might try one next time I go clothes shopping. :))
I have the exact same issue with these (5’2 and plump π ). Tried one on in Mango the other day..it didn’t look that bad. Maybe with 3 inch heels you and I can pull it off. π
