MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover

Happy cool weather girls, whatever that means, actually its pleasant, so everyone can plan on going out.  Here it was flooded till yesterday evening and today its all dry, hope the week is exciting for you!

I have had a problem since the time I started wearing eyeliners and waterproof mascara; while taking off, I am not able to take everything off in one go and then the other day, when I get up, I get all black crinkles at the sides of my eye or black sooty stuff in the folds or worse, my dark circles look hideous.
Also, sometimes, when I am a lazy donkey and I sleep with my makeup on, I wake up with red cheeks and swollen face and that gives hubby dear to say things like, “What kachra do you put in your eyes???” (these are the exact words he says, trust me icon sad MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover Review ), not to mention the efforts I need to put later to get it back in its original state icon sad MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover Review

When I used to see these makeup removers from certain brands, I thought that’s just another marketing gimmick, what difference would they make? I mean they would never remove something easily that oil and soap can’t- right??? Well, WRONG!

When Rati reviewed Lancome’s makeup remover, I became more serious about getting one for me. Because we keep getting waterproof, oil-free makeup and trust me, after washing my face four times with oil and face wash and a washcloth, it most of the times became red, scratchy, oily, not to mention the eyeliner goes after 3 days and then its time to apply again.  Uffff, the pain of looking nice I tell ya!  I am really not so particular about skin care as in I might do a little TLC, but not regularly; as of now, I can’t remember the last time I applied a mask icon sad MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover Review (which is a bad thing, you should do the total opposite).

So, I went to Lancome and as the entire Miami Junta is in the malls these days due to the rains, it was sold out.  So, I thought I would check out MAC and I explained to the SA that I want something to take care of my waterproof makeup, no stinging, no mess, etc., and she gave me this icon smile MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover Review .  I still double checked asking her to apply all kinds of stuff on my hand and then remove it, thus satisfied, I got this home!

What MAC Says:

Oil and water do mix, for twice the impact – just shake. A dual-phase, easy-does-it formula that sweeps off even tenacious waterproof mascara and lip colour. Absolutely gentle; suitable for all. Cucumber extract soothes, Damascus Rose flower water refreshes. No need to rinse.

Cost:  US$19.00 + tax for 100 ml / 3.4 fl oz.

Packaging:

This is a tall cylindrical bottle with a cap.  To open it, you have to press it down and unscrew it, maybe for avoiding spillage and did I say its pink? icon wink MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover Review

My Experience with MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover:

Normally, I apply a tinted moisturizer, an eye primer and an eyeliner as a must and then if I feel like, I add to it.  That particular day, just to check out this product, I applied full makeup – concealer, eyeshadows, liner, mascara, lipstick, and what not and hours later, when I started to remove it, I couldn’t have been happier.

I shaked the bottle, let the oil and water mix well and saturated a cotton round with the liquid. I let it sit on my eyes for a few seconds to loosen up the make-up and then stared swiping off, trust me, I just needed 2 cotton rounds and everything was swiped clean. It did leave a wee bit of an oily residue on my skin (which the SA said it would leave), but went away after I rinsed my face with water. My face was squeaky clean after that, in just 1 step, no more facewash/washcloth needed. I swear to God sachhi!!!!

Also, I would like to add that it does not sting the eyes, but makes the vision a bit blurry and after rinsing, everything is fine (also warned by the SA).

All in all, I am damn impressed with this bottle and no more complaints from hubby…. yayyy!!

So, summing it up:

Pros MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover

  • The packaging, mainly, the Bi-phase technique.  I had seen a drugstore one and in that the oil and water separated quickly, in this, it does not. The SA enlightened me that because of this, you don’t have to shake the bottle every 2 minutes and uniform liquid spreads over the cotton to help the cleaning process faster.
  • Does not sting the eye or face.
  • This one product is enough to take care of the entire makeup removal process, a boon for me because I hated using four different things just to remove the eyeliner and mascara icon sad MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover Review
  • Its cute.
  • My hubby does not complain now, so he might not complain when I buy more makeup! :happydance:
  • No red eye or red cheeks after wiping with this.
  • A little goes a long way.

Cons of MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover

  • The cost might be a little steep for some.
  • It clouds the eye a bit while cleaning (I don’t think its such a big deal unless you want to drive or run while cleaning your face, okay, might disturb while watching your favourite murder mystery!)
  • Other than that, I don’t find any faults with this, MAC certainly means business with this baby!

Will I Repurchase?

YESSSSS! I will get backups!

Now that u mention, i notice that eye makeup removal is hard and makes me feel lazy abt applyin it again.. I think finally im sold on makeup removers..
I am getting one though nothing as “cheap :stars: ” M.A.C.. Thanks for the nice review.. :thanks:

hey damn neat review. Maybelline makeup removers are always out of stock when i go to purchase but maybe better stuff is in store for me so shall check out MAC if these are available in India. Btw, what is the difference bet cleansers and makeup removers? can I substitute cleansers with makeup removers?

Reply

Bee November 2, 2011 at 7:49 pm

:thanks: Aruna :) I guess they are available in India…
Cleansers are similar to facewashes but without water….
makeup removers have 2 layers: an oil layer and a liquid layer… they have some special formulation to loosen up makeup- specially the waterproof one and slides it down and with swiping it it gets removed altogether…. waterproof makeup stays put even if you rub hard with cleansers :( (

Reply

Aruna November 3, 2011 at 10:22 am

Thanks Bee. Thats really useful info. So i assume the best thing to do is to use a makeup remover and then wash the face again with a cleanser..

Reply

Bee November 3, 2011 at 10:27 am

I used this one and had to only splash water….. but I guess agar 2-3 layers ho toh you might need a cleanser too :D
hope it helps :)

Great review,Bee! :hughright: And one of those “pros” made me snort my water. :lol2: :lol2:
But jokes aside….Ye MAC hai…too costly for me. :| :nonono: Waise bhi…I don’t even wear waterproof makeup.
Nevertheless,I’ll keep this in mind for when I start facing the woes of waterproof makeup. :haanji:
Abhi ke liye ye Maybelline aur Lakme wale kafi hai for me. :smug: :smug:
