The top 7 must-have fall accessories
Hi! I’m back with another post on what to expect in terms of fall trends. India seems to enjoy an –in-between season for the most part, where in other parts of the world fall is already here – the leaves are changing along with style both on the street and on the runway. Here are the top 8 trends in accessories you should watch out for:

1. Oversized bags:
While summer was all about cute clutches, sling bags and coin purses, they make way during fall for oversized bags. Think satchels, animal print textured briefcases, portfolios, box bags, and totes in classic hues like black, tan and of course, oxblood! This makes perfect sense in terms of the fact that the It Bag is back! Wear a smart trench or pea coat and carry the perfect bag to hold all your essentials.

2. Knee-high boots:
Booties were all the rage last season, but we’ve come full circle this time and knee-highs are back! Textured snake print knee-highs were seen at Pucci and Alexander Wang. The heels were a mix of stiletto, block and flat in most of the boots seen in major shows.
3. Silver jewellery:
Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2012 collection featured polished, smooth, oxidized statement neckpieces, which also figured in other major shows. Silver is chic and minimalistic, and adds a touch of elegance to any outfit.
4. Fur trimmings:
Fur for me personally is an ethical issue – I don’t consider cruelty to animals as fashion, and I’m sure you might agree – faux fur is fine but I could never imagine wearing something made of real fur. However, a lot of designers including the house of Chanel have shifted to faux fur – while it isn’t as warm, these days it’s almost indistinguishable from real fur and is cruelty free! This fall has seen the use of fur in a lot of accessories – bags, scarves and as trimmings on winter coats. Fendi came out with a twist on their usual bags by introducing fur trimmings on the sides of a classic white bag. (seen in the first pic).
5. Driver’s caps:
Driver’s caps or newsboy caps are a chic addition to a fall wardrobe – they add instant elegance to a casual outfit, for that touch of androgyny. Burberry’s Fall collection used driver’s caps on both male and female models. They’ve been spotted on tons of celebs so far, including the always chic Diane Kruger. I like them because the word ‘jaunty’ comes to mind 😛 and well, they add that playfulness to an otherwise formal, wintery outfit!
6. The remix:
Remember the 2000s remix craze? Well, it’s back – don’t shudder 😛 it’s only back in the fashion world! In terms of accessories as well, this season saw lots of experimentation – think leather clutches with fur accents, shoes and booties using two different kinds of material and so on. Designers have also mixed colours, so expect to see lots of two-toned booties, slated to be fall’s version of colour blocking.
7. Vintage inspired jewellery:
Designers everywhere seem to have taken inspiration both from the flower child vibe of the 60s and 70s and the edgy, disco themed vibe of the 80s this season. Look out for lots of geometric shapes, collar necklaces, and animal influences (tortoise shell, ivory, feathers, shells etc), tribal-inspired chokers, rings and earrings. The statement necklaces are here to stay. Also look out for jewellery inspired by animals, like the Gold-Plated Lapis Lazuli Snake Necklace by Roberto Cavalli.
