How To Get A Vintage Look
Vintage essentially pertains to the vine, the grapes and the whole process of exquisite winemaking. But in its multi-layered implications, it also refers to the very idea of ‘old is gold’ and thereby, goes on to suggest the antique styles and looks of the gone-by eras. Actually, the word- ‘vintage’ is a generic term, which can have several connotations. Hence, for the sake of convenience, let me clarify what it goes on to mean in this particular article. Vintage looks refer to the widely recognized feminine looks that beautiful ladies like Marylin Munroe to Kate Hudson and Katy Perry have sported and made famous. If you are interested in getting some of those easiest tips on how to get a vintage look, here is the article for you.
How to get a vintage look- Vintage makeup ideas
• Face for vintage makeup: For a perfect vintage look, the first thing you would need is a satin smooth complexion. It should be absolutely even in tone. Invest in a good quality foundation and have those corrective sticks and concealers ready so that you can work upon your problem areas! If you are a blush-person, you can sweep on some neutral blush on the apples of your cheeks, but the shade should be peach or soft pink. Keep your face makeup simple.
• Eyes for vintage makeup: Your eyes would need a lot of attention. A typical vintage look, especially of the 1950s, would be a winged eye liner paired with neutral eye shadow. However, during the 1960s, it was more of rounded eyes with dark eyelid creases and keeping the lid bare while loading the lashes with mascara! You can even think of adding some false eyelashes to get a perfect vintage doll-like look. For a classic style vintage look, you may opt to go for cat-like eyes (get the hint from this article on How to apply cat eye makeup- https://makeupandbeauty.com/apply-cat-eye-makeup/) and then fill the inner corners of your eyes with eye shadow having a pearl or rosy tint.
Make sure that you shape and define your eyebrows properly. A hint of shimmer on the brow bone would earn you that extra edge.
• Lips for vintage makeup: A red pout, full and plump, completes your vintage look. You can also get a lipstick in hot pink shade to get a vintage look like Katy Perry.
How to get a vintage look: Hair, Costume and Accessory ideas
• Hair: Waves and curls suit best while you try to get a vintage look.
The key to being ‘vintage’ is being classy and feminine in the right sense of the term. If you have long hair, you can opt for a messy bun or a vintage braid.
• Dresses: Exquisite dresses with laces and ruffles, with a flowing aura, look wonderful for a vintage look. The dress should be essentially feminine. A gown is a great choice.
If you want it the Indian way, drape yourself in a saree in a Saira Banu or Asha Parekh style.
• Accessories: Pearls and stones like emeralds and turquoise have a vintage effect in them. Try wearing exquisite pieces of amulets, rings, necklace and ear-studs in pearls and stones. You can carry a nice sequined clutch purse, embellished with stones and beads to get the right kind of vintage look.
How to get a vintage look: Additional tips
- Every person has her own style. Try to harp on your innate style while trying out vintage makeup and costume ideas. This will help you to be yourself while you are still ‘vintage’ in appearance.
- There are certain hair accessories like vintage hair clips, tiaras, hair combs, headpieces and hair pins which add to your vintage look. You can get them online.
You get nice vintage accessories in antique shops and curio shops. Try to hunt these stores for the right kind of vintage accessories.

hehehehe 🙂 thank you dear
Great article Somreeta.. I’m a great fan of vintage esp the style of Jacky O. I’v found that the easiest way to sport the vintage look is to wear a pair of cateye or round sunglasses, a polka dotted dress and net gloves in winter. Red lips and wavy hair do help a lot in achieving this look.
great article 🙂
