E.L.F Mineral eyeshadow in Royal review
I had never tried mineral eyeshadow so I got the ELF ones in US. They cost $3( approx Rs 150) so they are pretty cheap like all ELF products. The size of the product is also decent for the price.
However I made the cardinal mistake of ordering something from ELF website based on the photo on their site. ELF is notorious for their pictures not being true-to-color. So what I thought I was getting was a fairly matte looking purple color turned out to be a shimmering purple eyeshadow.
As stated on their website:
Bring a touch of natural beauty to your eyes with these soft, translucent shades that add subtle highlights for daytime or increased drama for night. With key vitamins A, B, C & E these eyeshadows hydrate and minimize the appearance of fine lines. Available in an array of light-reflecting color options they can be worn wet or dry, together or alone, for countless shimmering styles and trends. The all natural consistency makes them incredibly easy to apply and blend for a flawless finish. All our mineral makeup is 100% mineral based with no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes.
How to use:
- Shake the Natural Mineral Eyeshadow back and forth to get the excess powder loose into the tray.
- Gently glide the powder onto eyelids with finger or the Eyeshadow Brush.
Ingredients: Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Boron Nitride, Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate(Ve) , Retinyl Palmitate(Va), Panthenol(Vb), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate(Vc). May Contain: Iron Oxides(CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarine Blue(CI 77007)
Zinc Oxide has natural healing qualities and is used to calm and soothe irritated skin and is an anti-inflammatory. It also acts as a physical barrier that provides excellent protection against both UVA and UVB rays.Titanium Dioxide is also an important ingredient because of its ability to provide sun protection to the skin. Micaingredient imparts a soft focus effect that creates a natural, healthy, and youthful glow that instantly fills facial lines to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Silicadelays the aging process by moisturizing skin and stimulating collagen re-growth and also helps deliver a silky feel. Retinyl Palmitate is a Vitamin A derivative that helps to reverse signs of aging. Panthenol is a B complex vitamin, aiding in skin moisturization. Palmitate is known to normalize skin. It will help to keep skin soft and plump. Clinical results have shown that vitamin A palmitate significantly increased skin composition to increase collagen, DNA, skin thickness, and elasticity.
I like the packaging it is simple but very messy because of too many holes. I think they should seal off half of the holes. The shadow is pigmented maybe a little shimmery for me. But using it sparingly it can really be worked into pretty purple look. Will look good when paired with a smokey eye.
“Royal” is a very pretty deep purple color with silver shimmers. It is quite shimmery, so I won’t wear it too much, if I do, I would layer it with other matte colors to turn down the shimmers. However, it’s great for a glamorous night time look. It be applied wet or dry.
I swatched it dry:
To sum it up-
Pros of ELF Mineral eyeshadow
- Great value.
- Mineral makeup so safe for all skin types.
- Great pigmentation.
- Variety of colors to experiment.
- Good quantity. Lasts forever.
- It be applied wet or dry.
Cons of ELF Mineral Eyeshadow
- Messy packaging.
- Horribly wrong color swatches on website.
- Extremely shimmery.( Might be a pro for many.)
- Needs a good base for long lasting color.
I have no experience with any other mineral makeup brands, so I can’t offer any quality comparisons, but I believe these eyeshadows are beautiful if used sparingly. I love that it is a deep purple, and it’s also very pigmented. They have great quality and pigmentation. I have read that they’re about the same size as the Bare escentuals eyeshadows but at 1/3 of the price. My verdict is to go for them but to refer to swatches on beauty blogs before ordering.
