L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Hydrating and Matifying Icy Gel

L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti Shine Hydrating and Matifying Icy Gel

Throughout my teenage years and till I reached 24/25, my face was exceptionally oily. So, I always used cleansers meant for oily skin and on top of that, I used multani mitti regularly. I just wanted to get rid of the oiliness. So, I never used a moisturiser until problems started to crop up. I was under the impression that moisturiser was only for dry skin. However, in the past two years, my oily skin has become more of a combination skin. Skin around my lip area has become exceptionally dry. Just after washing my face, these dry spots become evident and only go away after moisturising. However, trying to find a suitable moisturiser for oily/combination skin itself is such a daunting task.

So, when I saw this “hydrating gel for oily skin” at “Watsons,” Malaysia, I really had to get it. This product claims to hydrate and matify oily skin at the same time, (which itself is a miracle for me), and contains deep marine source water. This product is suitable for hot and damp climate or for shiny skin.

Product Description:

Pollution, humidity and stressful lifestyle can provoke an excessive sebum production. At the same time, it can cause perspiration: skin loses water, becomes dehydrated, and yet appears shiny. (I don’t think we perspire that much through facial skin, though, at least not enough to cause dehydration.)For the first time, L’Oreal skincare laboratories formulated deep marine source water naturally enriched in purifying minerals to clear your skin from shininess and supply it with hydration all day long.  The Richness of Deep marine source water.

The deep Marine source water is directly extracted from 22m under the ocean soil, off the French Brittany coast. Preserved and filtered by this rich granite soil, this source water is naturally enriched in essential minerals. It is 8* more concentrated in the purifying zinc mineral than ordinary sea water.

Product Claims:

This Icy gel contains deep marine source water enriched in minerals to improve skin moisture and help prevent water loss. Enriched in Zinc, known for its powerful sebum regulating properties, this Icy gel helps to bring shine control. The formula also contains micro-sponges that help to absorb the excess of sebum for immediate and long term matify.

Dermatologically tested on Asian skin.  Results, immediately skin is cooled down, durably matifies and quenched for all day. Day after day skin gets rid of shininess and pores are clear and tightened. Skin is smooth and evened out. Full of moisture, it is “water-bouncy” and looks healthier like “water transparent.”

My Take on L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Hydrating and Matifying Icy Gel:

As this product is in a jar, I use a small spatula to get the product out. As soon as I apply this gel on my cleansed face and neck, the first impression is that it gives an extremely cooling feeling. The smell is of cucumber, but it also has a slight medicinal smell. It is of a soft gel-like texture, not too runny. I have been using this for about 10 days now. When it is a very hot day and when you feel extremely thirsty, how will you feel if you drink a bottle of iced water? As soon as I apply this gel, my skin feels the same way, the thirst is quenched. I feel my skin is hydrated enough, not too moisturised as to make my skin oily, but gives just the adequate amount of moisture necessary for oily/combination skin.

Gel

The dry patches have reduced. The shininess is reduced and I feel I can get away without using powder.  Skin becomes oily/shiny after about four hours. However, don’t expect this product to make your skin softer/radiant/fairer. This gel provides moisture, without overdoing it, that’s about it.  The very first time I used this, I think I used more than the amount needed, because it feels cool , and it just sat like a layer on top of my skin without sinking in. After some time, it just came off when I rubbed my skin like a peel of mask. So, from the next time onward, I just used only a tiny bit. However, this gel can also be used as a moisture mask. You can apply a generous amount, leave it for half an hour and then wipe off the excess.

Pros of L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Hydrating and Matifying Icy Gel:

  • Provides adequate moisture for oily/combination skin.
  • Contains micro-sponges to absorb excess sebum.
  • L’Oreal products are available easily.
  • Mattifies skin and keeps oiliness at bay for at least four hours.
  • Product gives a cooling effect, good for summer.

Cons of L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Hydrating and Matifying Icy Gel:

  • This range is not available in Australia.
  • Apart from providing moisture, this product does not improve skin in any other manner.
  • Jar packaging is not hygienic, but I use a spatula.

IMBB Rating:

4/5.

I have horribly “fry-cutlets-on-my-face” kind of oily skin ……The first couple of days it was great ……. cooling, refreshing ……… and then it dried out my skin …….. in full delhi summers! …. my skin was dry, rough and it lost all shine ……. so dull and beemar-type …. and the texture of my skin felt just coarse …….major fail for me
