How To Do Simple Face Clean-up at Home

Today, I will be writing about face clean-up technique that I follow at home and which I adhere to. This procedure of face clean-up suits my skin type as I use all the products which are tried and tested on my skin and which do not harm/discolor or tend to breakout my skin. I have combination skin with an excessive oily T-zone and my skin is acne-prone 🙁 Hence, I prefer to use products which do not have any harmful chemicals or complex substances. This isn’t any fancy clean-up, just a few simple steps for a healthy-looking supple skin. So, let’s get started on the products used and steps to be followed.

Cleanup at home

Things you will need:

  • Cleanser/face wash which suits your skin.
  • Cleansing milk/foam.
  • Facial Sauna for steam. You can even do without this and can simply use a utensil filled with water and heat it to produce steam.
  • Facial scrub.
  • Honey.
  • A face mask suitable for your skin type.
  • Toner.
  • Moisturizer.
  • Under eye cream (if you prefer to use it or you can skip it).
  • Ice.
  • Rose water.

This face cleanup can be customized according to an individual’s needs or skin type. I am penning down the method which suits my skin. Here is the list of products I use for this cleanup regimen:

  • Cetaphil cleansing lotion.
  • Ayur herbal deep pore cleansing milk.
  • Lotus white glow oatmeal and yoghurt scrub.
  • Dabur Honey.
  • Himalaya almond and cucumber peel off mask.
  • Garnier light daily moisturizer with SPF 15.
  • Neutrogena Fine Fairness Toner.
  • Himalaya under eye cream.

Now, that we know what all we need, the procedure is simple and the end result is amazing.

Steps For Clean-Up:

    • Wash face thoroughly with a facial cleanser or face wash of your choice and pat the skin dry with a soft napkin.
    • Take generous quantity of cleaning milk or lotion on a cotton pad and wipe the face to remove any dirt particles and to unclog the pores.

    • Steam your face for as long as your skin can sustain and then gently wipe the face with a facial tissue.

        • Take a clean bobby pin and use the end to remove any blackheads on the face. Make sure you do not squeeze any pimple and be very gentle while doing this. If you are not sure how to do it, it’s better to skip this step rather than subjecting the face to marks or even more breakouts.
        • Again, wipe your face with a clean napkin. Now, take an ice cube and gently massage it on the face in circular movements. This will help tighten the pores which have opened up due to the steam and will also bring back the skin temperature to normal.
        • Take a generous amount of any facial scrub you like and gently exfoliate the face in circular movements. Continue to exfoliate for about 8-10 minutes till the scrub dries out a little.
Now, take some honey and massage it over the scrub applied face for approximately 5-8 minutes. Honey is a anti-bacterial agent which prevents breakouts and gives a healthy glow to the face.
Wash off the face and apply a face mask of your choice and leave it on till it dries. Once the mask dries, wash it off or peel it off (depending on which type of mask you are using. I like the peel off ones because I enjoy peeing it off my face) and then wipe off the face with a cotton pad dipped in rose water.

Pat the face dry and apply a toner of your choice followed by a moisturizer and under eye cream.

You are done. You will notice that your face looks clean, fresh and the honey leaves a nice glow on the face!! 🙂

While the face mask is drying, I tend to use that time to pamper my lips. I apply some petroleum jelly on my lips, leave it on for a while and then scrub the lips with either a lip scrub or toothbrush. This helps the blood circulation and gives you softer, fuller and pink lips. I even apply some Soframycin on pimples, if any, once I am done.

This entire face cleanup regime takes about 45 minutes to an hour. I prefer to follow it once a week or fortnightly. This is a simple process and includes use of products which we usually have in store for regular use. I prefer cleaning up my face at home rather than going to a salon for expensive face clean-ups. Trust me, as easy as this clean-up looks, the results are even better. Do try this out and let me know how it works for you all. 🙂

  6. Very useful post mayuri.. i used to do facials once in a while at parlor’s but off-late i am more satisfied with DIY facials than visiting parlor’s. now all i need is a good steamer.. with that i am all set to do a full-fledged facial at home. do u gals have any specific brand that’s good in steamers? 🙂

    1. Raji.. Almost all the steamers work the same way.. You can pick up any one.. and they are dirt cheap.. You can get the small ones for INR 200-250.. 😉 😉

      1. Hi Raji.. thanks for the comment.. the steamer which i use has been bought from a local medical shop for 250 Rs.. it works really well and trust me simply boiling water and taking steam from that helps too..

        1. thanks mayuri.. once i witnessed an accident in my home wr our maid poured hot water on her leg.. 🙁 since then i am scared to get stream from boiling water in vessel. :chewnails: that’s y i asked u gals abt opinions on steamers.. thanks.

        1. Oh thats bad.. :nababana: :chewnails: Then toh you can definitely go for a steamer .. you will find it easily in medical stores.. the one which i have, has a nose nozzle too for inhaling steam when you catch cold.. cool na.. hehe :high5: :high5:

  7. nice article mayuri…will surely try this method..am always scared of doing facial in parlour..and its high time i do something for my skin:-)

  8. this is very good :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: i am loving it
but can you please help me i have small white heads on my lower lip how will i get rid of them . :waaa: :waaa:
    O:)

    1. Hi Sweety.. thanks for the comment..  :teddy: You can use the bobby pin technique which i have mentioned above for whiteheads on lower lip.. you can just scrape out the whiteheads opposite to the direction of growth.. just be careful not to be too harsh and not to pop any pimple..   :preen:

  9. Very nice post Mayuri, will serve as a nice reminder to do it this weekend :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: Thanks for sharing :teddy: :teddy:

  10. Great post, Mayuri! :woot: :woot: I am SO going to do this today itself. :preen: :yahoo: I love the honey massage idea. Sounds so luxurious.

    1. hi.. thanks Amrita.. well steaming does open up the pores but it helps removal of blackheads and dirt.. i have mentioned in the post that rubbing ice will help reduce the enlarged appearance of pores.. you can try it.. :preen: i hope this helps :balle:

  12. Detailed & Informative post Mayuri..

I use Facial Kits & pamper myself once a while at home only..though skip steaming part..thinking it might open my pores..jisko mushkil se close kiya hai.. :jalwa:

I reckon doing cleanups/facials/or simply applying facepack..rejuvenates you yourself frm within alongwith your skin..!! I always apply facepack few hrs before going for any event..it sets my mood for the party.. :preen:

    1. hi Shilpa.. thanks for your comment..!! :balle: you are absolutely right..!! face packs do help a lot.. you should pamper yourself with these once in a while    :preen:

  15. hi mayuri, thanx for the advice on doing a clean up at home. I tried it and it had really helped… i used to spend money on expensive cleanups at parlors, but was never satisfied, coz my skin was never completely clean at the end…….. thanks for helping girls like me, by ur step by step method home clean up….

  16. Tried this process today and I am very happy with the results 🙂 I think the result is better than that of any simple clean-up that I have gotten done at any parlour. Thanks a ton Mayuri.

  17. Thanks Mayuri for sharing this information.

I was planning to get a cleanup from parlour tommorrow, but now I am going to try your idea.
In one thing I found myself lucky is that, our skin type is similar 🙂 so am gonna get all these products that you suggested (though some of these I already matched), as I always feel confused in choosing these skin products for myself. 🙁

You have missed to specify the brand for the moisturizer that you use. It’ll be great, if you could help me out with that too.

    Thanks a ton in advance ! 🙂 🙂

  18. hi…I tried this cleanup procedure … everything wasawsm.. but after application of honey my face went unbearably red… do you have any suggestion for this.. can I replace honey with aleovera… thanks
