(Dupes for Nyx lip creams?)

Okay Girls,

So here’s how I discovered these. I was at the Beauty Centre, Crawford market here in Mumbai. I wanted to check out some of the NYX glosses, lip creams, etc. I asked the SA for the price of the NYX lip creams and she said it was Rs. 600 for a single lip cream and it was too much for me, so I decided to buy them online some time later. I was just browsing through the nearby counters and noticed tubes that looked just like the NYX lip creams. I read the small board they’d put up and it said, “Rs. 100 each, no testers,” and I nearly jumped. I thought it was my lucky day and that the lip creams were on some mad discount. I picked up one of the tubes to look at it and realized that it wasn’t NYX, but VOV, but it looked exactly the same as the NYX ones, same to same.

The colour range, the packaging, even the writing on the tube, you know how the NYX tubes have “It’s not lipstick nor is it gloss. It’s like nothing you’ve experienced before. It’s lipstick cream that goes on silky but looks soft matte”? Yeah, well the VOV ones have the exact same writing too. The only difference in the packaging is that instead of NYX, they have Beaute VOV written on them. I was a little disappointed that they weren’t NYX, but since they looked the exact same, I was curious and bought two to test, especially, since they were just Rs. 100 each. I mean you can’t even get a good lip gloss for 100 these days. Anyway, I’m going to cut to the chase and tell you guys the similarities and dissimilarities between these and the NYX lip creams.

Please note that I don’t own any of the NYX lip creams. My comparisons are based solely on reviews and swatches of the NYX creams by Rati and others on the internet. Here it goes!

Packaging:

Same to same (except for the names of the brands, of course!).

Colours:

Same to same. (I saw dupes for Antwerp, San Paulo, Addis Ababa, and Amsterdam, almost all the colours in the NYX range).

Texture:

This I cannot confirm because I haven’t used any of the NYX ones, but from the pictures and reviews I’ve seen online, they seem pretty similar. They are smooth and creamy and dry into a matte texture, but the difference here is that the VOV ones take a while to dry. They don’t dry fully in 5-10 minutes. They take at least 20 minutes to dry fully and become somewhat transfer-proof.

Smell:

I think it’s the same because this one too smells like delicious pastries.

Staying Power:

Personally, they do last for long on me, but probably not for 6 hours. It stays for about 3-4 hours and then fades. Also, the colour fades faster in the centre of the lips and if you look closely, you can see your lips showing through.

Price:

Rs. 100 Vs. Rs. 600. Do the Math. Of course, if you’re buying it online along with other stuff, then it may be better to buy the NYX ones.

So, there you have it!

The ones I have seem to be dupes of Antwerp and San Paulo, I’m not sure. If any of you have used the NYX ones, please do confirm.

Conclusion:

So, do I recommend these to you? Well, that depends on your preferences. If you like the colours, the chic matte finish that the NYX lip creams provide, want to try out a cheaper alternative, are willing to experiment with a brand like VOV, then go ahead and get these. If you’re hesitant about the brand and its quality, then go for NYX.  As I’ve said before, I haven’t personally used NYX, so I can’t confirm certain things, but from what I’ve seen and heard, I do think these are pretty good dupes for the NYX lip creams. Besides, they’re worth a try at 100 bucks. I mean really, you can’t even get the Maybelline watershine lip glosses for 100, right?

3.5/5 (I’m not going to give them a bad rating just because VOV is not a cool brand, lol! They really do deliver with this product).
