FabIndia Mosquito Repellant with Natural Oils

I am damn scared of mosquitoes and the diseases they spread. We take all precautions at home to keep mosquitoes away. Considering that there a whole lot of trees and plants around the place where I live, I have to take a hell of a lot of precautions against mosquitoes. Since my son is not someone who would remain and play within the confines of the home, I wanted something that would provide protection against mosquitoes while he is out and playing around.

fabindia mosquito repellant

When I was browsing through an e-shopping website, I came across this repellant, which claimed to be made from natural oils and could be sprayed on to the body because it was bereft of chemicals. I went ahead and bought it because it came from the brand FabIndia.

FabIndia

What is Written on the Bottle:

Made with a blend of hydrating coconut oil and natural repellants like citronella and lemongrass essential oil, this deet free repellant helps protect your skin from mosquitoes.

My Take on FabIndia Mosquito Repellant with Natural Oils:

This oil-based liquid comes in a spray bottle with a spray nozzle. It smells heavily of lemongrass and “only” lemongrass. If you are not particularly fond of the strong scent of lemongrass, please don’t even consider buying it.

The spray nozzle is not of a good quality and after a few sprays, I found out that the oil and liquid were seeping from all sides if I kept it in the supine position.

When it is sprayed on to the skin, it forms an oily-liquid layer and I need to spread it around. This liquid spreads as an oily layer, which gets easily absorbed into the skin without leaving any greasiness.

Coming to the point whether it works in actually repelling mosquitoes away, well, yeah, it does, but for a certain time frame. Mosquitoes stay away say for around 1 hour or so and then the lemongrass scent fades away completely and then you have to spray again. I have seen mosquitoes buzzing around my son, but they do not dare bite him…eeks…while he smells of lemongrass .

Ah and yes, this is completely safe for kiddos’ sensitive skin because my son did not get any rashes or other adverse reactions because of this.

Repellant

As for myself, I don’t spray it on myself because people start asking me whether I have applied amrutanjan because they simply are unaware of something called lemongrass :rolls eye:

Its easy to carry around in purses and handbag, but the only hitch is that the nozzle is not so good and there is only a tiny plastic cap at the top, which does not stay put and comes off easily and if you really don’t mind if your handbag “stinks” of lemongrass, then you have got a winner!

Overall, I think it is a pretty good thing to get if you have entomophobia like me and live in a place with lots of trees around.

Pros of FabIndia Mosquito Repellant with Natural Oils:

• Effective mosquito repellant made from natural oils.
• Does not cause irritation or adverse skin allergies even on sensitive skin.
• Personally, I love lemongrass’ scent, so I quite like it.
• Can be safely used on children.
• Spreads as an oily layer, which gets easily absorbed into the skin without leaving any greasiness.

Cons of FabIndia Mosquito Repellant with Natural Oils:

• Packaging is not good enough and the liquid seeps through the cap and nozzle.
• Only effective for a limited time frame, after which the smell of lemongrass fades away, and has to be re-applied.
• Some “people” may find the scent of lemongrass “repelling.”

Will I Buy Again:

Yes, I will, since it is effective and it is safe to be used on my son.

Would I Recommend:

Yes, to those, who are entomophobics like me 😐

P.S: I thought “repellents” was the correct spelling, but FabIndia’s label says “repellant.” :|:|

  1. wow this sounds like a nice one jomol especially for kids when they go out to play in the garden or play ground..there are so many mosquitoes buzzing around such areas :pan: :pan:

  2. Jomooo.. repels only for an hour.. thats too shortt.. :spank: :spank: .. but i think it would be classyy if some would show off this bottle as mosquito repellant.. :preen: :preen: :preen: . normally only odomas is expected to be mosquito repelling tube.
But now odomas has also launched their no-fragrance cream..but fab india is still having the strong lemongraasss smell… :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :preen: :preen: :preen:

  3. Naice! :woot: Mosquitons are my enemies. 😐
But I am a loyal Odomos baby. O:) Bachpan mei wahich use karti thi. :dumb:

  4. green wall is backkkk :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

jomol i had such a terrible day today :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: main jo bhi aaj kar rahi thi sab kuch mein twist aa raha tha :pan:

  5. btw forest essentials has a citronella oil, just mix a few drops of that in your body lotion, and watch the mosquitoes being repelled. i find tht this bottle gets over too soon.. the citronella oil bottle costs 600 odd, but 6-8 drops in a 50ml lotion bottle works just fine.

  6. jomol bachpan mein mu naanaji used to rub odomos on me nad brother’s arms and feet.. i used to hate it soo much that i developed a phobia for odomos more than the insects 😐 😐 😐 I will try the tester and see how it feels.

  7. Hey Jomol..Have you tried Pigeon Deet free wipes for babies. Its quite nice and mosquitoes stay away for about 2-3 hours   . I use it very loyally for my baby, although I use Odomos for myself.

  8. I love lemongrass! :)) Especially in tea!!!
But there are no mosquitoes around here right now :((
    Nice review, Jomol!!! :teddy:
