Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub

Neutrogena’s gentle scrub has been my favourite scrub for over an year now. It has been by my side in all ups and downs, never broke me out, never went too harsh on me, even when I used it daily. It was only until last month did my life turn topsy turvy when I couldn’t find this scrub in the market anymore! I don’t know what went wrong, but I checked at least 10 shops in over 3 cities, but it was nowhere to be seen, but then, I found this variation of the scrub, though I was hesitant to try it first, but then I gave in, there was no harm trying a cousin of my favourite scrub, right?

85 INR for 50 ml.

What the Company Says about the Product:
Microbeads gently exfoliate, beta hydroxy clean deep into the pores for soft, smooth skin.

Neutrogena scrub

The words ‘beta hydroxy’ and ‘oil free’ totally had me sold out . Beta hydroxy is supposed to be very good against acne . In fact, a lot of dermatologists suggest alpha and beta hydroxyl acid peels to dry out the acne.

The packaging is quite similar to the original one, the only difference is the word oil free and the description, so you might get confused thinking they are the same. In fact, I find the entire Deep clean range confusing, their foaming cleanser also looks the same, there have been times when I picked two scrubs thinking one was cleanser 😀

My Experience with Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub – Oil Free:

First thing I noticed about this was that the granules in this one were bigger and I instantly thought, this would be a harsh scrub. Nevertheless, I gathered up all the courage to use it. It has a nice citrusy smell, which I completely love. When I used it for the first time, it was all good, it actually made my face stay oil free for long and I was quite impressed by it, but just when I was thinking to make it my favourite scrub and I used it for the second time, it went too harsh on my pimples and one of them started bleeding. I was so horrified and scared. Though the bleeding stopped after a while after using an antiseptic, it was the end of my love for this scrub.

Interestingly, my sister started using it after I chucked it out and she loves it. She uses it daily and she feels nothing clears her face like this scrub. She has oily-combination skin with no acne at all. So, I am guessing it would be good for people with non-problematic oily skin and the beta-hydroxy is just for oil-controlling purposes and not for drying out acne :/ Its not its fault entirely, I mean, the scrub did not say anywhere it would help with acne, but I wasn’t even accepting it to make me bleed!!

White and orange beads.

Pros of Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub:

• Nice citrusy smell.
• Cleans the face without leaving any slippery feeling.
• Packaging is pretty durable, the flip cap does not go loose.
• Stands upto its promise of keeping the face “oil-free.”
• Pocket friendly.

Cons of Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub:

• Very harsh, made me bleed, need I say more ?
• Definitely not for people with acne-prone skin.

My Rating:

2/5 (1 for keeping my face oil free + 1 for working for my sister)

Would I Recommend It?

If you have acne, then you should stay far far away from it, but if you have normal-combination skin, then I think you should give it a try. We all have different skin types and they behave in enormously different ways 😉

      1. Ritika tht sounds soo horri no 😐 😐 bleeding frm pimple i cud undrstnd :idk: :idk: :idk: once it happened whn i used Ayur one :deadrose:

  1. oh its always like that and unfortunately one needs to go thru some scary moments before settling down on the right product. Glad you stopped it before you gave it more tries. What do you use now?..and wndering if scrubs in general are harsh for acne prone skin.. :methinks:

    1. I use the original version of this scrub Aruna ,and I feel it is very hasnt aggrevated my acne in any way . I also use Aroma magic’s mineral glow scrub these days ,which is pretty mild too..and it works amazingly in black heads .
I felt the same way about scrubbing ,and I even tried going without scrubbing, but i just ended up with more black heads ,open pores and rough skin :(( :((
if you feel granules of the scrubs are too rough on your skin, you can use home made scrubs too,I use an oatmeal one sometimes :))

      1. also try using icing sugar as a scrub, it’ll dissolve on your moist face soon providing just enough scrubbing and sugar has glycol in it, which is moisturizing.

or u can use any scrub even when ther r pimple, but just avoid the area of break outs….thats wat i do, no mishaps so far

thanx for d review btw, i had been eying this one. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

  2. Neutrogena is generally good for acne prone skin. Even my pimple had ruptured once with a scrub. Tab se whenever I have pimples I only use scrub on my nose and chin. Better safe than horrified

  3. it makes you bleed..can you sue or someting?
Yaar please don’t scrub on your pimple you will be left with a dirty scar. :((
scrub only on your blackheads region ..

Neverthelest its should have been little less harsh even if accidental rubbed it over your pimple.thanks for the review will never buy it for sure.

    1. I never had a problem with scrubbing when I had pimples Nikita ,this was the first time . But now I will definitely be more careful :yikes:

  4. :methinks: :methinks: :methinks: :methinks: :methinks: defntly nt fr me :yikes: :yikes: i wntd to ordered so kept in my list ready :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: bt nw to :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: NO WAYYYYYYYYYY…….. :zombiekiller:

    1. Try the original version of this Jiya . The one which does not have ‘oil free’ written over is very very nice ! But this one toh just :hunterwali:

  5. My love for neutrogena toh has totally ended here. From past few days I have been using that sunscreen spf 50 wala. so everytime i used to use it I used to have bumps on my face.. Bt i could never figure it out completely as to what was breaking me out. So yesterday I had to leave for somewhere. i washed my face and just applied suncreen. I happened to see my face after an hour there were 3 breaks outs on my face :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: I realized it was that suncreen . Never getting anything frm neutrogena ever :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

            1. Its very nice..use a moisturizer over it and you wont feel dry at all . But it stains my clothes and those stains never get out:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

                1. Rati, Neutrogena is only good for oily/combi skinned ppl I feel! The sunscreen breaks my friend out to, n she has dry skin. :(( For me, its like a must have…
