Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion

Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion

Hello IMBB!!

This is my first article here and I decided to do a review of a product I use every day!!

About Me:

I am a 23 year old, engineering graduate, currently employed at a software firm. I was never a makeup person but was a skincare freak!!! Started using light make up only after IMBB happened to me!!! My skin type ranges from normal-combination-dry depending upon the weather!!

Read on for the review!

Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion

There was a friend’s birthday in January and I remembered it only when another friend called me up that morning, saying she wanted to organize a surprise party for him. He was a close friend and would probably skin me alive if he gets to know I had forgotten his birthday!!!

I rushed to Inorbit at the last minute and looked around helplessly, I knew HOW my gift should be (it should be different, he should like it, it should be useful and it should make him forget the fact that I’d forgotten his birthday and hadn’t wished him last midnight!), only, I didn’t know WHAT exactly it should be and buying gifts for boys,   :headbang: I don’t even want to talk about it. There are so many things that come to my mind when I think of buying something for a fellow lady, but when it comes to guys, phew, absolutely no choice, I was totally blank!

I was now running short of time and I blindly rushed to Inhabit (just due to lack of ideas). Voila! He’d been complaining that he was getting bored at home and I got him Panchkona, a single-player, ancient Indian game that makes for a great time-pass, putting your grey cells to work at the same time. I rushed out, proud of my purchase, and since my pick up was going to take some more time; I entered the Lush store next door.

I was looking longingly at the massage bars when an SA popped up from nowhere and asked if I would like to try something. “No Thank you”, I told her, “I’m just looking around.” She asked me if I would like to see some other products that were on a 50% sale. My ears perked up at the mention of the word “sale” and I went along with her even though I had no intention of buying anything!

The SA asked whether I would like to see shower gels, shampoos or cleansing lotions and I chose cleansing lotion since I’ve never tried any from Lush. The cleansing lotion was 9 to 5 cleanser (formerly Orchid Oil cleansing lotion), whose description you can read in this article here.

She rubbed a lot of liquid foundation onto the back of my hand and used a pea-sized amount of cleanser to clean it up entirely! All she did was to lightly rub the cleanser into my skin and clean if off with damp cotton. My skin was visibly smooth (could be because of the light massage!).  The smell impressed me and since I anyway needed something gentle to clear away my stubborn mascara and waterproof eyeliner, I bought it! Of course, the main motivator was the “50% off” tag to it!

Price:

560 INR for 95 gms (got it for Rs. 230!!!!!)

I showed off my proud purchase to my friend who asked me if I actually tested it before buying it.  I said yes, told her what the SA did, and she said, “Liquid foundation will rub off easily anyway, why didn’t you wait till it was dry?!?!” At that moment, I realized my folly and fervently prayed that it should actually work and my money shouldn’t go waste! Back home, the first thing I did was to test the 9 to 5 cleanser on my face.  I used very little pressure while rubbing the cleanser into my skin and when I washed it away, my feeling was, “yeah! it works!” It washed away my entire eye makeup, that too gently, and my face looked as if I’d been scrubbing it for the past 5 minutes, super clean!!

A test with my stubborn-waterproof-smudge proof faces eye-pencil:

Massaged it lightly and removed it with a cotton pad:

My clean, smooth and soft hand! *blush*

My only problem with the cleanser was that it left a film of oil when I tried to wash it off with water! It has to be removed with a cotton pad.

Pros of Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion:

  • It removes stubborn makeup (waterproof or dried up) almost entirely with a little light rubbing.
  • Not only makeup but all the dirt and pollution that accumulates on my face throughout the day is also washed away. It makes my skin squeaky clean.
  • It does not stretch or dry up my skin, in fact, my skin is smooth after cleansing with 9 to 5.
  • Very little amount is required for the face and neck (about ¼ teaspoon), so the product lasts a long time.
  • The mild wild flower fragrance, it makes me relax.
  • The flip cap packaging keeps the product hygienic.

Cons of Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion:

  • Not for oily-skinned beauties.
  • Has to be removed with a cotton pad, washing away with water leaves a sticky film of oil.
  • Price if not bought during “sale” period would be a turndown for some. I got it at half price, so I find it economical.
  • Contains parabens and alcohol.
  • At the risk of sounding contradictory, the packaging again. The bottle has to be squeezed to let the thick cleanser out (imagine if the cleanser is at the end of the bottle!) and I’m personally not comfortable with flip caps. (This one can be ignored though!)

Would I Repurchase Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion?

I already got the bigger bottle for myself!!!!

Would I Recommend Lush 9 to 5 Orchid Oil Cleansing Lotion?

Yes! My mother who has extremely sensitive skin has also started using it at my insistence and it works the same for her. She also looks fresh and glowing for long after she cleanses her face! I wouldn’t recommend it for oily-skinned beauties though.
